Banks high flow intake elbow and OEM grid heater replacement
AH64ID replied to Me78569's topic in 4th Generation Ram
It’s still a potential issue. Doing the bolt wiggle test at each oil change is recommended. -
Grid Heater Light and Chime on 3rd Gen
AH64ID replied to Mopar1973Man's topic in 3rd Generation Dodge
The codes were added later with a software update/TSB. I want to say it was around 2008/2009. I recall everyone up in arms thinking the programming was bad, but it turned out to be pretty darn accurate and lots of folks had failing injectors and didn't know it. -

Grid Heater Light and Chime on 3rd Gen

LEAK DETECTION DURING MOTORING, or high injector return flow. The fact that your grid was disconnected is coincidence, the code will likely be back... but hopefully not. -
Grid Heater Light and Chime on 3rd Gen
AH64ID replied to Mopar1973Man's topic in 3rd Generation Dodge
The truck does not use the grid heater after 2 minutes or once you hit 18 mph, whichever comes first. The truck also doesn't light the WTS light with a chime for a grid heater issue, it only does that for a injector flow issue. Grid heater issues will set the CEL, not light the WTS light. What was the code? P1222 and P1223 are associated with the WTS/Chime. Not all grid heater codes are hard codes, some are soft codes and will store but not trip the CEL (possible with a disconnected grid heater depending on where you disconnected it). It's likely approaching time for injectors, as nothing you described indicates the lack of connection on the grid heater was the culprit for your issue. -
We’re still dropping the average price here in the Boise area. Low price hasn’t changed but the bulk of stations are now under $5/gal, unlike last week. EFS price is trending up, just over $4/gal now. Maverick in McCall is down to $5.399
-
McCall is following the trend, Chevron was down to $5.699 2 days ago. The trend is absolutely real, any way you slice it. Maverick in McCall is $5.439 this morning. Unfortunately the Maverick in McCall isn't part of the EFS network.
-
State average shows the trend, which is easy to follow. It's not an absolute, but is a trend. We are almost always above the state average here in Boise too, it's all relative to Idaho not having any refineries so we pay more shipping costs than neighboring states.
-
You said Idaho, not a specific part of Idaho
-
Not quite... the state average has dropped over the last couple days and is down to $4.979. Average here in SW Idaho is higher than the state average thou, but we can get it for $4.899 at few stations. My EFS card price has gone up a little, but would be just under $4/gal after the fee's, it's $3.800 before the fee's this morning. $3.851 before fees in Fruitland this morning, so it might be worth looking into an EFS card if you still do frequent trips to Ontario for shopping.

Turbo Theory-Small Compounds
AH64ID replied to Andyba20's topic in 2nd Generation Dodge 24 Valve Powertrain
We put a modified HE351CW into dad's 06 with a G56. It did everything better than the stock turbo, spooled sooner, pushed harder thru redline, ran cooler, and probably increased airflow and NOx (only reason I can think they went smaller). All it had was the larger turbine wheel off of a HE351VE put into it. Not sure how it would react in an automatic VP truck, but I can't see how it could be bad. For heavy and higher altitude towing I figure its about a 375-400 rwhp turbo, but we kept Dad's around 350-375 rwhp. -

5K and and 4% grade isn’t much, so tuning and a single for that is easy. I had my 05 able to pull at 6% grade in 6th at 70 up thru 7K feet on a 75° day and not break 1250° at GCW’s above 18K. That was as hard as I could push it at those rpms. 2200+ rpms and I could pull any grade at any weight and elevation. It was tuned to the point where a pyro wasn’t needed, but I was the tuner and spent a lot of time on it. It was 415/850 to the ground so around 480/1000 at the crank. My stock 18 (385/930) would put pull the 05 below 2000 rpms. They were the same 2000-2400 and the 05 won above 2400. The 22 out pulls the 05 below 2800, hands down. No real need for those kind of rpms on a 6.7 thou. I did want small towing twins on the 05, but I could never justify the cost. -

Probably because the people that are common on the internet with the older trucks aren’t the type that tows heavy. It’s just been too long since these older trucks were king. No matter the mods a stock 4.5 Gen will out tow/handle a 2nd Gen. So mods don’t focus on towing, they focus on fun. -
Looks like they are dropping a little. $5.799 in Riggins and $5.619 in McCall. It’s a start.
