  1. I got a great video for you to watch about raising chickens. Now take a look at these two good looking guys while they bring you up to date on the latest way to raise these chicks. Michael & I watched this and think it has a helluva lot of merit. If its country....its got my vote. Love ya.
  2. So the copper tubing on my DP gauge kept plugging. It was an 1/8in line, so I went out and converted everything to 1/4in today.
  3. Thanks! it's a work in progress. I haven't even cleaned it since I took ownership lol. I've just added a few things and had the valve cover and intake horn powder coated...
  4. I hate that wing off warning light.
  5. I know most of saw stories on the the pilot that landed the passenger plane in the Hudson river, his name alludes at the moment. It did that take a lot of skill with a lot of luck to put that thing in the water as perfect as he did. Have any of you ever listened to the radio communications recording of the event? If you listen to it you would never know what he is getting ready to do. That man had his head screwed on tight. On another note. Working in construction has given me the opportunity to stand on the edge of many tall buildings. i cant deny when standing on the edge that I have a real nervous tightness in my gut about falling off. A few of the buildings were tall enough you are just going to die when you hit. But most of what I work are just tall enough to put you in a wheel chair or bed for the rest of your life. I think that is my biggest fear of falling. So with that being said, a few years ago I was in Florida with some of the family and we went skydiving. Did a tandem jump from 13,500 feet. I was pretty good with it but cant say I did not have some apprehension about the whole thing. My turn came and the guy I was strapped to drug me to the door. He was only 5' 4"versus me at 6' 4" so if I stood he would have been hanging off my back. I did not look down at that moment just kept staring straight out the door. Out we went and when we got stabilized I looked down and we were so high that the perception of height was very distorted and that feeling I had standing on building was not there. Matter of fact if it had not been for the wind rushing by you would have never know you were falling. The ground is so far a way you can"t tell at first that you are falling. He pulls the ripcord at about 5500 feet so we just fell over a mile in less that 60 seconds. even under canopy i never had that strange feeling of falling. Both side of that story get my adrenaline pumping. Best 150 bucks I ever spent. I highly recommend it.
  6. Been thru both of those. A combination of loose credit and ignorance..

Well new to me at least! Some of you helped me out in my other thread when looking for one. Well I finally pulled the trigger and picked one up! It's a 2002 4x4 QC LB auto. Single owner, garage kept majority of its life, never had a goose neck or 5th wheel (which is harder to find than you'd think up here). Came with a 2in leveling kit and 35's and a hypertech 'tuner' to fix the speedo. Other then that, she's all stock. I crawled under to check for any signs of a 53 and couldn't find anything, so I might have a mexican block, but I'm going to keep checking. I couldn't be happier! I originally wanted a manual, but the wife said, if I'm getting a new truck then she better at least be able to drive it. So rather then argue, I just said 'ok' and got lookin! Anyways, wanted to start a thread here because, since it is stock and I'm planning on keeping this truck for the long haul, I wanted to do some mini write ups of the mods and what not I get done to her. As of now, here's the order I want to go in: 1. FUEL! and lots of it! 2. Gauges 3. Steering 4. Transmission 5. More power! 3 and 4 may get swapped around depending on what's needed more and my budget but that's the general order. So to start, fuel... The stock injection pump was replaced by the dealer 50-60k miles ago so it should have some decent life left, and it looks like they moved the stock lift pump. I didn't track it down exactly, just looking fairly quickly, and couldn't find it mounted on the frame, did they do in tank LP's for 02's? I'd like to fatten up my fuel lines to 3/8s everywhere possible, also looking to go with the Fuel Boss, but not sure how that works if my LP is mounted in the back in tank if that's even a thing. Any ideas or experience with this? As of now I'm looking at getting the following for step 1. FUEL BOSS ----- BIG LINE KIT ----- MOD FUEL MODULE As far as fuel lines, the obvious is the big line kit from Vulcan but I figured I'd talk with Eric about getting lines replace as much stock line as possible. I also threw on the modified fuel module. I saw that as I was browsing their site and hadn't seen it before. Is that necessary at all? Keep in mind I'm just looking to have fuel flow as easily as possible through the truck. When more power rolls around I don't plan on going EXTREME, but would like lack of fuel to never be thought of again after this. I'll leave at this for now but really looking forward to wrenching on this truck and getting her setup for the long haul!
  8. Yes. It's the gasket between the spacer and the manifold. I'm not going to replace it until I get a larger housing though I'm hoping that as well! Hopefully going to the ATS dyno event Saturday and getting it on the rollers!
  9. Hopefully that will keep it reading true and not plugging up.
  10. I happen to be a chicken master, And by master I mean I feed them and they lay eggs for me. We got 5 girls in our garden. i will have to snap some pictures. by far the easiest animals to care for, and when something does happen we just cut it's head off and more on.
  11. So im told... Haha. I havent seen it yet. But we do have new wing boxes to hang the old T56s on. Usually problems start with "hey Eng, does this look funny to you?"
  12. remember, 80% of them just sit. and are used 4-5 times. then once or twice a year. nothing wrong with used. always replace teh bed with a pillow top. the couch is not big deal. Whats the intended use for the RV? hunting? back woods camping? trailer park queen?
  13. I don't know about them being VIN locked, but I am sure someone on here will chime in with the correct answer.
  14. At 5500 feet the ground is still a mile below your feet. That was strange sensation looking at my feet and the ground so far away. Everything is still very small but a bit larger than it was when we jumped. In a tandem jump the deploy a drogue chute that stabilizes you and slow you down to only 100 mph. when we jumped we were 2.5 miles in the air so even though the ground got closer there just was not any sensation of it rushing up. It is hard to explain you just need to go do it.

I don't think anyone knows honestly. Airdog either does know when group of serial numbers has the issues or they are unwilling to release the numbers to us. I THINK, take that with a grain of salt, that any 4G pump should not suffer from that issue.
  16. Is it scary when you reach the 5500 feet off the ground? It would seem at 120 mph free fall that the ground is coming up awful fast.

Somehow I got the impression they were the same company called Pureflow and that 'AirDog' was the name of the pump. Thanks for the clarification. How would you make sure that you did not get one with the flawed design? I guess Eric would know

I've also had the same conversation with the owner of Pureflow. If I go to replace my 10 year old Airdog 150 I would most likely spend the money with Eric @ Vulcan Performance for a second AirDog 150.
  19. That was this past summer during the flood, I was hauling suplies back to my house The brakes were replaced a couple months ago so I know that wasn't the cause.

To clearify, pureflow does not = airdog, two different companies, airdog pays for the right to build pureflow pumps for light duty trucks. After talking with the pureflow owner, the license holder for the airdog, he told me that airdog changed the design without getting approval from pureflow. That is where the issues came from, pureflow required them to go to the 4g series pump, which is a pureflow design. Once the 4g pumps got out there a lot of the issues went away, but there are still a TON of faulty pumps floating around here and there. Still cheeses me off that airdog never gave a "hey we're sorry we screwed a bunch of you over" speech. but oh well, I don't have to worry about being left on the side of the road anymore thanks to pureflow. They were beyond awesome to work with throughout the issue.
  21. Anyone else finding irony in the OP's avatar and now having brake issues? just thought it was funny, I suppose the valve may have, but really no point in jumping to conclusions until you get the drums off.

Shouldn't hurt a thing. I would go with it.
  23. How to go from "I have a dream......" to 'I'm living in a nightmare!!' Ya got'ta love these threads
  24. that's a great portion of the video. have you seen the whole thing? zeitgeist 1 and 2?

This song inspired me to write "$5 fine for whining" on a jar and leave it in the break room at work.
  26. i pay cash for everything. i've been audited a few times for slapping down 10-25 grand in 100 $ bills. now i write a check and let the bank handle it. the feds don't like cash because they can't control it. wife and i financed our first car together. before i was educated, through Santander at 16% after 4 years it still wasnt' 1/2 way paid off. we sold that and got a cheep 1990 ford Probe GT. saved the cash and got her a 2012 civic, saved more cash and got my truck's. house is paid for. Dave Ramsey is a brilliant man to listen to.
  27. Hour and half is my fastest...
  28. Those are pretty nice numbers!
  29. For me it is Silos. Climbing up in the dark feeling your way when it quits working. Never had a headband flashlight, just climb in the dark and once you are in then pull out the flashlight. Leveling after filling and worrying about silo gas if sat over night. You can cannot smell the gas or see it, you just have to treat it like it is always there. The neighbor had a service guy from the dealer die from this in one of his Harvestore's. Raising silo unloader and the winch cable starts to fray and come apart and while this is happening I am standing outside the silo on the platform and you can feel every bounce and vibration, waiting for it to let go. It never did thankfully. Servicing the silo unloader most of the parts can be brought up the feed chute except for the augers due to the length. We had to replace the augers in various silos and you have to pull them up from the outside platform and get them over the edge and lower them down. Sounds easy but standing on a 20" by 30" platform doing this and using both hands to grab a 12ft auger. The one that really scared me was when I smelled smoke coming of the hay silo. The boss was gone on vacation and it was me and the one helper. I climbed the silo in the dark with a big fire extinguisher, when I got up there I could not see the silo unloader it was so smokey. Told him if he did not hear from me for a couple minutes to call for help. Turned out a bearing on the blower failed and the feed was smoldering near it.
  30. Spider and snakes don't bother me much. Spider you just smash with a kleenex. A snake you grab a shovel take its head off. I remember one morning a girlfriend woke up and go to the bathroom and found a very large worm as she called it in the bathroom. It was a rubber boa snake picked it up, chucked it out the front door. We've got Garter snakes all over here those are harmless but nasty stink. The put off a scent that you can't wash off. No real rattle snakes where I'm at. Down in Riggins, ID there is but most are quick to clip the heads off. Spiders we've got brown recluse, hobo spiders, daddy long legs, several type most are poisonous but never had any issues with just crushing them and moving on. So the whole fear of spiders and snakes not really for me...
  31. Interesting question... Mine I guess I would have to say is when the tones go off on my radio. I listen to the page and then get pumped up not knowing the full story other than the little tidbit on the radio. The race like hell to the closest fire station to the scene so it might be 40-50 mile run in my personal truck running 70-75 MPH to get there. Then hop in fire truck and finish the last leg to the scene. It all depends on the call out fire calls that are paged as house fire get me pumped up and figuring game plays in flight to the scene. Vehicle accidents a bit different being they typically are not moving and more of plan before you leave and which station to hit possibly. Still in all the fact of being in a massive forest fire and watching the fallout of flaming pine cones and watch fire surround you will make anyone adrenaline flow. It's more interesting when your the Commanding Officer for the group in the middle of this event.

SWEEEET!!! As for fuel, it's located on the block from the factory. Since the IP was replaced by the dealer you now likely have the in-tank pump. I'm not familiar with the mechanical pumps, but personally I shy away from them. Fass has a perfectly reliable electric pump and they are simpler in my eyes. Either way, usually new pumps come with new fuel lines. Run 1/2 inch and be like the cool kids haha! The liberty module makes it much easier to plumb the new pump in. No dealing with the in-tank pump or installing a draw straw.
  33. I ended up buying the factory bolts from cummins, pulled the starter, generously sprayed holes with brake cleaner, hit it with some air and used a small caliper to get confirmed hole depths. Once I had proper depth measurement i proceeded to clean the threads by carefully threading the bolts in, once I started feeling any resistance I would back out spray and clean and then keep going until I got resistance and then rinse and repeat until I got the bolts in all the way to proper depth after performing this process on all 3 bolts I took starter to local rebuild shop for thorough inspection which was a good call because some of the bolts had came lose in the starter from all the rattling. With starter back in proper working order and clean threads with fresh bolts I put everything back together and tightened bolts as close to 37-40ft lbs as my scale certified hands could get it. At this point just for good measure I got a white sharpie paint marker and made straight lines down the side of the bolt heads and on the the housing of the starter of all three bolts to easily identify if bolts start to back out in the future. Its been a couple of weeks now and all line marks are still lined up, so as of now looks like its resolved but I will check periodically once or twice a week and keep a wrench an extra wrench in the truck for the next month or so. Also I learned something that may serve others that have this issue in the future. Visibly from the exterior it looks like only 1 bolt passes through but in reality 2 of them do the other passes through into the flex plate area I didnt confirm if alignment would permit it but it almost looked like if you use too long of a bolt you could possibly drive starter bolt into flex plate (made me feel at ease that I went with factory bolts...) but for others that go with longer bolts you may want to take this into consideration.
