  1. Those with block heaters, and use them, I have a question..How "hot" does your coolant get when plugged in overnight? I realize this could be dependent on ambient temps, possibly, but I'm curious. As an example, my block heater heats the coolant to ~100*F when plugged in overnight. Is this a normal temp for these things? Seems my '96 got hotter than that, but not 100% positive.
  2. I plugged in the truck yesterday for the first time. water temperature was at 68 degrees. Does this sound about right for a truck that's been plugged in for a few hours? --- Update to the previous post... Sorry, 48 degrees. Not 68.
  3. i have my block warmer on a timer. When it's really cold, go out and trip it back on. but i had to leave in an emergency, and it was -18.What happened was it cranked hard, (no big surprise there) and as soon as oil pressure came up, it kicked to 3 cyl idle. it skipped right over the 2 min normal idle and the 20-30 seconds of high idle. i hit the brake to stop it and it ran rough until the normal program kicked it back in.just thought i'd share that, because i didn't know it would do it that way.
  4. I read that using the block heater costs about $1.50 a day.I plug mine in all winter here and never notice any change on my bill. Guess that's cuz we have cheap rates, and man I am thankfull for that
  5. After lots of reading about my truck, I have decided I'm doing ok.I change my oil every 3000 miles, and the fuel filter at the same interval.I'm now running the two cycle oil in my fuel too.So! with my new vp44 I think it should last a while longer then it did the first time.My mileage was at 61,000 miles with the first failure. I'm thinking one of the reasons was because of the fact I have not been driving the truck much. In the last 6 years I usually only put around 400 miles a year on it.Winter time it just sits in the yard, and I plug in the block heater.I think I will be driving it more now to keep it exercised.Opinions are appreciated.
  6. I just purchased the 2010 with the 6.7 engine. The block heater wasn't listed on the window sticker, but in my internet research I find some references to Dodge actually installing the heater but not including the connecting cord. Evidently the cord costs $40-50. Can any of you confirm this to be true? Thanks in advance...
