  1. First off I'm new here but hope I can contribute in some fashion as well, 2ndly I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas. Now the truck then the issue. 1998 24v 3500 4x4 manual transmission. Mods are air box, full exhaust, hot rod vp44, air dog 2 165, edge juice CS w attitude, and the wiring harness mods listed on here. Ok now my problem.... driving the truck one day and it shuttered out of the blue didnt think anything of it and kept on going. A few days later it does it again and the tack dies, doesnt come back and I notice the levels on the edge dont work anymore and the truck is running bone stock. No codes or check eng during this time. Picked up wife to run some errands stopped by the auto parts store wouldn't crank back up. P0336 showed up so walked back in the parts store got a crank sensor slammed it in and truck fires up tach is back for about 30 seconds truck runs rough tach dies motor smoothes out. P0336 code is there. Shut truck off, restart same thing starts right up tach is up for maybe 30 secs then dies and truck smooths out. So what I have done..... I removed both ECM and PCM sent them both to be tested. ECM was bad so replaced it. Removed all wiring from the engine bay, undressed it cleaned each and every connector and fixed all the grounds. Ohm'd out each wire from start to finish and validated no brakes or anything else wrong with the wiring. Put it all back together and still the same thing. I forgot to mention I have changed the crank position sensor 3 times and the cam position sensor once. I have come to the end of my rope. I would greatly appreciate some advice. I have followed every step of troubleshooting I can get my hands on. Hopefully it will be something stupid, if it is I will gladly put on the dunce hat. Quick note I forgot to add that is important I think. The Edge display I have set up to show RPM and it never drops to zero it is following the engine and is correct. Thanks in advance Alton
  2. I recently went through the whole T/C lockup problem and found it to be a bad ground. I fixed the issue and no problems until today. It started going in and out of lockup in 3rd and 4th but not like it was doing before. Before it was at steady throttle now it does it at different throttle positions. Also I just got a P0336 code. My question is will a Crankshaft Position Sensor cause T/C lockup issues or am I getting the code because of T/C lockup problem?
  3. I HAVE A 98 24 VALVE WITH 165 k miles. I am getting a crank position sensor code set. This happens only near wide open throttle. The tach goes crazy and the check engine light comes on. when checked the only code is p0331. I have previously replaced the part but the code comes back. After doing a fair amount of reading I decided to check the fuel pressure. It reads 13 at idle and will stay there until i get close to 2500rpms or so at which point it will drop to around 8 pounds maybe. the needle flutters pretty bad. The truck also at that point runs like ____.So my questions are do I need to replace the crank position sensor , replace the lift pump, or should I do some more testing before I throw parts at the truck. I am not inclined to just throw parts at it. I bought the truck a while back at a decent price just to flip but I did not realize all the issues with it. It has a 53 block and has been used to tow as it has a goose neck hitch and was a ranch truck . I had to have the nv 4500 rebuilt. I might keep the truck if I thought the block would be ok.John
  4. This problem is starting to happen more after a warm or hot restart within the first mile, tach drops down to nothing, CE light comes on, engine rattles real hard for a mile or two. If I was to stop at a light, the engine has a rough idle, today I put it in neutral I kept juicin' it a little just so it wouldn't stall. After a mile down the road it all returned to normal. My FP was in my normal14-16 range while driving the entire time.:shrug:Anyone experience this?Dave
  5. I've been getting code 0336, crankshaft position sensor, lately so I changed the sensor tonight. Still the same problem. Under heavy acceleration the tach bounces around and the comes on. When I'm towing a heavy load the tach will stay at zero long enough that the engine defuels some. To me it seems to be related to the extra vibration caused by the increased power. Any ideas what I should look for next?
  6. I have code 0336. Can somebody tell me what it is? I picked it up with the Scangauge, it didn't show with the key trick. A search here didn't produce anything. Thanks
  7. on occasion, I have had a CEL, and the P 1693 code. I had the ECU codes checked, and it was the crank position sensor. The CEL randomly has appeared, and nothing has happened except in 2-5 starts, the CEL goes out. This happened again two days ago. Today, CEL came on again, and on the way home from work, the engine stuttered. just a miss of maybe 2 or 3 power cycles, but ran smooth with good power otherwise. I am unaware of how to get both P done, I've tried and only get one, with the P1693 code. How is this done?Am I finally having to pay attention to the crank position sensor? Any pointers?Thanks for the input.
  8. Where is the crank sensor located on my 2002 24v engine?I read about it but no one says where it is!Still learning!Sorry wrong forum!
