    Installing an Edge Comp

So now we get to install the Edge Comp module. Look back at the firewall where the main bulkhead goes throw. Cut a 3/4" slice in the rubber boot and slip the Edge Comp plug through the hole. Pull the harness through enough to get the RED wire inside. Route the red wire over to the fuse panel. Open up the fuse panel and pull fuse #17. Take the supplied fuse terminal and slip it over the leg of the fuse and reinstall the fuse. It will be difficult to install so use a blunt object to push it a little. Now route the MAP sensor plugs over towards the MAP sensor. And hook it up. Look down by the ECU and you find the CAN-BUS connector down there. Route its cable down there and hook it up. Now there is an another lead. It's got the grey wire (Pump lead) and the Black wire (Ground). Take the leads in one hand and using the other side the covering down away from the ends. This will give you extra wire to reach the battery for ground. Now you can hook up both black to ground on the engine and the grey wire to the red wire on the Bosch VP44 Injection Pump Stealth Cover. Now route the main connector to the steering column or the knee bolster. Take a rag dampen with rubbing alcohol to clean the place your going to stick the velcro. Use the supplied velcro to attach the Edge Comp. Then place the Edge Comp to attach the second mating velcro. Now go out to the turbo and cut the band clamp off the wastegate hose on the turbo side. Now unscrew the elbow out of the turbo. Now install the supplied boost elbow which looks like the same thing but it got a small hole in it. Use the supplied hose clamp and reinstall the wastegate hose. At this point double check all your wiring and plumbing. If it's good to hook up your battery. Turn on the ignition key. At this point, you should see lights on the Edge Comp. Fire up the engine. You should be done. It took me a little over 1.5 hours to install.
  2. Edge Comp Settings From what I understand when your setting you power levels you got the main number (1-5) and the sub level (1-5). To set the sub-level press the power switch and hold for a few seconds and release. The LED bars will be flashing rapidly. Now you can adjust the sub-level. The main number controls the maximum fuel rate and maximum timing advancement. This it the amount of total fuel at WOT that will be used. Higher the number the more fuel at WOT. Main Level Horse Power / Timing 1 40 2 60 3 80 4 100 5 120 The sub number is how quick it will get to maximum fuel rate and maximum timing advancement by boost pressure. Higher the number the less boost required to get to full fuel rate and timing advancement. This also might create black smoke during acceleration. Sub Level Fuel Rate / Timing 1 33% of Fuel is supplied until 20 PSI of Boost then 100% is supplied 2 50% of Fuel is supplied until 15 PSI of Boost then 100% is supplied 3 67% of Fuel is supplied until 10 PSI of Boost then 100% is supplied 4 adds less fuel than Sub-level 5 5 adds the most fuel at low boost Recommended setting is 4x4 or 5x5. Reason being is that most of you every day driving on city streets and highways you will never be able to keep the boost above 10 PSI. That means once the Edge falls in de-fuel mode you've lost you time advancement and any kind of fuel enhancement. The de-fuel mode is a de-fuel stock mode which you want to avoid. De-fuel mode was designed for people that have a large turbo and/or large injectors and it gives them a way to control smoke till the turbo spools up.
  3. So if your running a junky edge comp or juice and want just a little more fun, this is what smoke out put you can expect with a 90hp 7x.0085 VCO injector from DAP. Clean burning and sensible injector for a well balanced rig. Pop pressure on this truck is 300bar. Truck setup: 99 model year, fass 95, edge juice (same program as comp), 4” exhaust, HX35W, garbage jasper trans, triple disc, 4.10 gear. this specific truck doesn’t have the pump tap installed due to a new VP44 installed so this is just stock, level 1/sub 1 and level 2/sub 1 for low smoke and smooth acceleration to keep traction under control. With levels 3-4-5-6 with the pump tap of course expect smoke and hard torque and acceleration. This truck is a fleet tow rig and they don’t run the pump tap because employees drive the truck and they don’t want it hotrodded but wanted a little more pull without the pump tap being installed. stock: level 1/sub 1: level 2/sub 1: Good setup for daily drivers and tow rigs. You can hit 1300-1350* on wide open runs on all levels so make sure you have a good set of gauges (not glow shi(f)t, there garbage, slow and your gonna melt a piston)... would work well with S03 users also. Levels 1-4 or if you use REVO settings (actual level is irrelevant then).
  4. The clutch I got my SB 1947 OFE installed the last part on November. It was nice to now have a non slipping clutch again. I am impressed with the SB. In first it engages smoothly, it is a little grabby launching in 2nd but nothing to worry about. It holds like the Hulk and I am very happy with it. i made one run of about 475 miles with the 5th wheel in tow and the comp on 2X3 and it handled it just fine. This was on a good mix of flat and hill country. No long grades to speak of but a good many short 6% or so grades. The clutch held great no matter what I threw at it. When I got home maneuvering the 5th wheel into my driveway went smooth. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth it was in 1st and reverse. It is mostly flat but a 90* turn to back it in and takes a good bit clutch work to get it in. Fuel mileage and the comp I had to move the 5th wheel a few months before the clutch install. Since I new the old clutch was almost done I made the trip in 5th gear. The trip was 440 miles of mostly interstate like described above and I ran 65 mph as much as possible. I netted 10.1 mpg on the trip. That was with the comp installed but turned off which allowed me to build over 20 psi of boost without the ECM defueling the engine. When I made the return trip after the clutch install I still ran 65 mph but used 6th gear as much as possible. I have always towed in 6th as long as it pulls good with about half throttle. I made the trip with the comp on 2X3 and netted 11.3 mpg. That is best I have ever gotten traveling at 65 mph. Driving around empty has been a lot fun to. The comp puts a lot of power to the ground and it was nice feeling like young man again. I am thoroughly impressed with it especially after driving with no chip for the past 2.5 or so years. The miss Now the rub. About 3 weeks ago I noticed i was picking up an intermittent miss under medium to heavy throttle. It is not like one cylinder cuts out it is intermittent and not constant. The truck idles fine with no miss and does not miss if I roll into the throttle and let the rpm build. it misses when I just stick my foot in it and every once in a while it does not miss at all. It also does not miss with the comp turned off no matter how hard I get on it. Not sure what to make of it, weak injector, fuel leak, weak cylinder, something with the comp maybe. The weather has been either too wet or cold to check much out. Hope this turns out to be simple.
  5. Yea. As of today I had to drop my sub-level again. Getting to smokey as summer time started coming on and noticing more and more smoke as I would be towing and/or launching with a heavy foot. I'm wondering if others have notices anything like this with warmer weather? No ill-effect to MPG's at all but the smoke level is slightly higher now than was during the winter time. I'm also wondering is the injectors changing for like a break in process and flowing more?
  6. I am gonna be getting rid of my quadzilla really soon as I am wanting to go to the edge comp box. I just can't decide whether I wanna get the hot unlock or not, please fell free to give your , Thanks
  7. Hey guys, just wondering what boost readings you all are getting when using scangauge 2, and edge comp, i get like 14psi boost showing on scangauge after changing map sensor with a genos garage unit, old one read .-0.7 at idl, and would track slightly behind actual shown on isspro gauge, new one tops out at 22psi on scangauge. Thanks
  8. Hey,I was curious...I have a BD Power box which has levels up to 5-5. It is just like the Edge Comp. I was curious if Edge can make it "hot" like the Comp Drag to keep fueling up to the 3200 rpm range??? I have been told it the same as the Comp but different label because BD Power bought some of these boxes from Edge and slapped their name on them. Does anyone have any idea? Thank y'all
  9. Where is the data link connector to hook up my edge comp? I've spent a lot of time looking but no find. Is it a loose connector or is it connected to something and I have to disconnect it? I did find a loose 4 pin connector but it does not match what the comp came with.
  10. Just got off the phone with Casey at edge asking questions about the edge comp.... Im still working out the low boost smoke issue and he told me that levels 1-3 do not utilize the pump tap!! I asked how level 3 makes 80 hp on the comp and the ez only makes 65 hp... He said the comp does it but doesnt use the tap untill level 4 and if i unhook the tap it will function as an ez.. but instead of 20,30,and 65hp it would be 40,60 and 80 hp... This goes against everything ive read about the edge comp.. Im hoping you guys can shed some light on this for me as my conversation with tech support left me more confused lol
  11. Hey guys I bought a used edge comp last week & got it on the truck filled up with fuel and started driving..... only been a little more than half throttle 4 times and so far im about 80 miles short on this half tank of fuel....Looking for opinions here bad fuel ( i fill up at the same station every 2 weeks and this is where i get the best milage from).... winter fuel .... I wouldnt think so but maybe.... still a month early for that here it usually happens mid october...or unhook the pump tap next tank and see whats going on there... No fuel in the oil im checking that every 3rd day at the fire house after it sits 8-9 hours I changed the oil 2 weeks ago with the same ole rosmella.. still clean after 2 weeks usually black by now.no leaaks anywhere.. It runs good, real good, nice smooth power not as agressive as thte quad xzt+... I lknow no one can give a definate answer just looking for ideas and opinions.. Thanks guys
  12. I found a guy with an 02 edge comp for sale. Just wondering if anybody knows if it'd work in my truck. I plan to call edge but thought I'd see if anybody here knew first.
  13. alright i just got a edge drag comp box and im not quite sure how all of the power levels work and wat they will all do for timing and fueling. Can someone please explain to me wat each level does? Thanks Jason
