  2. Hey all, back again with another problem 🙃 so I have a weird knocking that sounds like it’s coming from the bell housing directly under where the clutch is.. it’s an 01 6 speed with (supposedly) a South Bend Dual Disk. Noise stays even with clutch pedal pressed in, I just don’t hear the discs rattling any more. The noise is proportional with engine rpm. I’m praying to god it’s the flywheel bolts or maybe it’s the original 300k flywheel and the P/O just slapped a new clutch in, which is definitely possible due to other things done on the truck... maybe dual mass flywheel? Clutch spring hitting? Clutch component broken and is stuck in there? I’m almost certain it isn’t injector knock since it did that noise before I swapped with my buddy and he had pretty damn fresh injectors too. YouTube video attached as well. https://youtu.be/WjidpvDkmus you can hear the sound more towards the end when the phone is right under where I’m assuming the clutch assembly is. Hoping the clutch is just on its way out or was installed improperly (not good but better than a rod or bearing)
  3. Hi Cummins Mopar Fans, Just wanted to give an update on my auto to 6 speed swap. I couldn't be happier. First off, I had everyone on here giving me things to try over the last eight (8) years to help me get my automatic problems solved, gear hunt fix, something like 6 altenators, ground cleaning, let alone hundreds of hours researching trying to find a cure. I want to thank Whie98Lightning for suggesting a swap after he sent me a diagram for the TC lockup switch. Mine even wanted to hunt w the switch on. Like he told me & I agree, that (the switch) was the only thing I could do to keep driving the truck. Also, all the deap pedal issues are gone, the truck seems like it picked up 50HP, my turbo now lights at 1500 instead of 1700 RPM. I can shift when "I" want to hold the truck at the best gear for any situation. Yesterday I sold my Dad's 57 Chevy 1/2 ton & delivered it on a car hauer w no issues, that's a first, I would usually have at least a gear hunt or dead pedal issue of some sort. Now I can tow in OD w/o worrying about killing the 47RE. Yippie! Seems like my fuel mileage is up a little as well. 6 in a row & 6 on the flow, Dave
  4. So i am in need of some advice on my transmission. It grinds going into 6th gear. I can live with it for now because if I allow the rpms to drop to around 1,000 when i shift it will shift smooth. But I am not the type to leave something like that lingering over my head. I have changed the fluid which helped the tranny a lot. I couldn't even get it in reverse before i changed the fluid. I put the mopar fluid in.I guess I have a bad syncro from what I have read. Does that require a complete rebuild? Should I have it rebuilt when I have someone tear into it? Does anyone know a transmision guy in the Northern Kentucky area? Just trying to get my ducks in a row so I can start saving:spend:.....i know this will cost me a few pennies. Thanks,Jason
  5. So I have searched here after reading an article on CF about fluid to use in the NV5600. Some say Pennzoil, Amsoil, OEM..etc. First off, is the Syncromesh transission fliud made for the GM brand the same stuff reccomended for this tranny? From what I can read I think it is, just makes a fella question it when GM sells for less then half of what Dodge dealers want. I have also read the theory of adding the limited slip (1 bottle) to the tranny when doing an oil change to it. Has anyone in here been doing it to theirs? I think i'm going to do a fluid change on mine and not sure what to put in it. I can't get the Pennzoil or Amsoil here in Canada where I live so it's gonig to be dealership oil or maybe the GM fluid if it is in fact the same and the limited slip oil if it's a good idea
  6. Ive searched and cant find the thread showing where to get the little plastic "cup" that fits on the ned of the shift stick into the tranny. Mine is worn and has about an inch of play front to rear and i hate play. its the little black thing on the end of the stick shift below (cant get the image to work) http://www.allstategear.com/Shifter%20Components/Medium/NV25683.jpg
  7. So how much are good used ones going for? I have chance to buy one for $1200. Don't really need it but I hear they are getting harder to get, thought as long as I have my truck it may be a good idea to have a spare until I get rid of it someday, then I can always sell it . Says it has a 1 3/8 10 spline input shaft, not really sure though if that's the same as the one in my truck...anyway of telling short of tearing it apart?
  8. i came a cross an old thread on CF discussing pros and cons of the nv5600. the only thing unusual in it was a single post by someone stating you should only use an exhaust brake in 5th gear. no mention as to why or any responses to the post. i am just wondering if any of you have ever heard of any reason not to use an ebrake on a nv5600.
  9. Coming home from the gym last night, no trailer, no nothing, and btw I am completely stock so like 200 hp at the flywheel or less, and I heard the strangest sound a transmission could make when I was about to crest a hill, sounded like cats having a brawl in an alley or something, then it went clang, clatter, crunch and crash, now I have no forward or reverse gears and coasted to the shoulder... Mainshaft is broke I think, we pulled the drive shaft and yoke out of the back of the tranny, btw the seal is now definitely wallered out, and the output shaft will move up and down, side to side about 2 inches and can be pushed in about half an inch and out the same. Something aint right...... Fluid changed at 100k, 150k and 180k with pennzoil synchromesh that meets ms9224 spec, 5 quarts in it. What all do I need to do to put a 5 speed in the truck? I know I will need a clutch with 1 1/4 splines. What else? How different are the driveshaft lengths?? This is an 01 dually quad cab 2 wheel drive.
  10. Will get started on removing the drivelines today. Mopar I was looking at the manufacturers links on your web site and found Standard Transmission and Gear listed. Have you or anybody else here ever done business with them? Found a place out of Memphis called High Gear Transmission also. High Gear had this info THIS IS A STANDARD SHIFT TRANSMISSION, NV5600 6 SPEED, FOR THE DODGE 3500 SERIES DIESEL TRUCKS.WE HAVE THESE IN 2X4 AND 4X4. THESE UNITS ARE REBUILT, UPDATED AND DYNO TESTED. (MY DYNO TESTER COST $80,000. BEFORE YOU BUY A TRANSMISSION FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE, ASK IF THEY HAVE MADE THAT KIND OF INVESTMENT IN THEIR PRODUCTS.) ALL THIS MEANS THEY WILL WORK WELL FOR YOU WHEN YOU GET THEM. WE DO SEVERAL THINGS TO MAKE THESE TRANSMISSIONS LAST LONGER. ASK US ABOUT IT WHEN YOU CALL. listed on the tranny Will give them all a call on Monday. Will a 3500 fit my 2500 ?I just found the link to the transmission write up from the dodge forum http://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-cu...rk-nv5600.html that will be very helpful. Nice write up by that guy. I also need a clutch. Found a SBC 1947 OFE at TV diesel for 650.00. Does that sound like the right one for me. I don't do a lot of pulling. Haul a cabover to Montana once a year and occassionally pull a load of firewood. Just a few questions. I notice some clutches come with a fly wheel can I just reuse mine or do I need a new one? Is there anything else you would do while you have this tranny out. Rear main seal ? Any other thoughts or suggestions or tips to make this job any easier would be a appreciated. Thanks Rob
