Got to Mobil, they say they are the best. Go to Rotella, they say they are the best. Go to Amsoil, they say they are the best. Go to .... Well, you get the picture. What is THE BEST oil for our trucks? Not just the engine, I'm talking the engine, trans, rears and anything else that has a little puddle of lubricant in it. I have been running Amsoil 15-40 since the new engine, but cringe when it's time to change. - What are the benefits of synthetic vs. dino? - What is the best dino? - What is the best synthetic?

I am going to try bf 1212. I see that the rubber gasket is shorter than the fleetguards. Is the filter housing machined different ?

This is the 1st time I have used the Donaldson oil filter (ELF 7349). I am using it with Rotella 15w/40 synthetic. I plan to run it 10,000 miles before changing. Is that too long? I use my truck for normal driving but sometimes tow a 35ft 5th wheel, mostly flat country on the Ms. gulf coast. Tx in advance.

Walmart has a Fram oil filter that says it is for synthetic oil and you change it at 10,000 miles. Anybody ever use it? That seems like a long time between oil changes to me. I bought it but I plan to change at 7000 miles. What say you?

I wanted to let any one that has used Amsoil EAO88 oil filter. The AMSOIL Ea15K88 Oil Filter is available for purchase. Designed for 2003-2010 Ford 6.0L and 6.4L Power Stroke™ diesel applications, the Ea15K88 is recommended for 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, in normal or severe service. In addition I am repeating myself we now have a full synthetic for OEM drain intervals. It meets API CJ-4 specifications and is suitable for both modern and older diesel applications. Hey all,I have had my oil filter head leaking for awhile all over the side of the block, so it is time to pull it off and replace the gaskets. I looked in the FSM for some guidance on what to do, but no luck. Is there anything special I need to be aware of besides draining the coolant? I bought 2 paper gaskets from cummins (the parts guy advised me that is all I should need). I figure the proper torque on the bolts should be 18ftlbs based on the size of the fasteners. Thanks,Chris

What oil filter do you use? Do you have a bypass? If you use more than one kind, list your preffered filter. Trying to see what's the most common. If you use a Stratpore LF3894 just select the LF16035. If you use a Hastings LF608 just select Baldwin BT7349. Here is the data I have on the filters listed. Manufacturer recommends oil to be changed at the 7,500 mile interval along with other things. I've heard of people going to the full 7,500 and some won't even go past 3,000.I know it's a dumb question to be asking but, I can only come up with 2 conclusions to this.3,000 miles can be pretty costly but, increases engine life as it's being flushed out with new oil. I guess those who can afford will do this.7,500 will be more cost effective in the long run but, you have just doubled the contaminants introduced into the system by doing it at this time. We all know that oil serves us 4 purposes, and that is, seal, cool, lubricate, and clean. Only makes sense that all four of these lack in their respective department by extending the interval. What do you guy's think?

Now that it is getting colder outside I'm preparing to change oil in my truck. I live in Illinois just East of St. Louis. Occasionally the temps will fall below 10*F which is out of the 15w-40 range according to the chart. I'm curious what some of you guys do regarding oil changes and viscosity? Do you change oil in the fall to 10w-30 and then again in the spring back to 15w-40? I know I can buy 5w-40 but all I've seen is a full synthetic. I only put about 6k on my personal truck in a year, so when I had my gasser I would change oil at the 3k mark. I've only got about 2500 miles on this truck since the last oil change. I hate to change oil unnecessarily but again I don't want to damage the engine. I guess if I went to the 5w-40 full synthetic I could get away with changing oil once a year, but I am leery of doing it. I've never used a full synthetic in my vehicles and changing oil only once a year makes me a little nervous. What are your thoughts??
