I see that Hella has also come out with a verison of those 9104 flosser bulbs. @IBMobile do you ever get anyone flashing their brites back at you? I would just be worried about blinding people with these things.

From that link you posted it states that they are for off road but reading the reviews people use them as their primary driving lights without issues, I would guess that you would just have to be careful how you have your headlights adjusted too. sounds like a good deal though, I may have to give them a try

@IBMobile are you by chance using relays with your lights or just directly plugging 100w bulbs in?

Opps I missed it...

Nothing wrong with reiterating this question.....  I'm seriously considering trying these higher wattage bulbs but I have to admit that I'm skeptical in regards to any possibly adverse affects.  Dont want to melt anything.

I hear you about not wanting any adverse effects. My sport lights are bright enough and I really care more about the oncoming drivers being able to see the occasional dark dressed pedestrian.  All the lights are so bright already as a whole these days and I don't want to have all the trees and plants scorched along my driveway.

My intentions are not necessarily the main head light bulbs but more the brights bulbs.  I too have Sport headlights which offer some pretty bright headlights already.  But if I can get the brights to offer an even brighter/wider beam then that would be worth it.  Although not at the cost of any repairs.....

I am the opposite of you two. My brights reach way out. Almost far enough that I could stop with just my exhaust brake with in the range they have. The low beams is where I would like some improvement but also not at the expense of repairs to try it. I have after market lenses and dont know how the would hold up. Almost doubling the low bean wattage seems a little much but might be worth a shot.

I just got back from camping with the grand kids in the Alabama Hills.

I drove over100mi from Thanksgiving dinner at the in-laws' last night back to my trailer and only one person flashed their lights at me.  I find running mostly low beams with the driving lights is all I need but the highs really reach out there.

I've been using them for 11 years and I just inspected the left blub, connector and housing.  They are all in good condition.  I don't know how well the after market head light housing would hold up.

100w x 2 = 200w = 14.4 x 13.88 amps. I know the headlight fuses are 15 amp.

My truck (Sport):

15 amps each headlight / 15 amp fogs

Factory lights:

110 watts on low beam = 9.16 amps

240 watts on high beam = 20 amps

Using IB's bulbs:

160 watts on low = 13.3 amps

360 watts on high = 30 amps

So I guess it seems the higher wattage bulbs would be OK.....  But that said, I also have my fog light relay jumped which keeps the fogs on with the high beams.  That means I'm guessing the fog light load runs through the head light switch too (thats 414 watts and 34.5 amps if I include the fog lights) and I cant remember what amperage the headlight switch is rated for so.....

I didnt read the whole thread.....but if I understood this right, isnt it merely converting a non-sport headlight into a sport headlight illumination whereby all four bulbs are on during high beam?

I use Flosser 9104 blubs. they are a direct fit replacement for the stock 9004 55 watt blub and for the low beam in the sport headlight.  These are 80 watt low beam and 100 watt high beam.  This is a cheap way to improve the lighting out put.  I've been using the same blubs for 11 years.

Sorry guys for bringing up an old thread but I have to clarify something IBMobile said...

I'm going to try some brighter bulbs in my Sport headlights and remembered this post.  My questions are, I know my Sport headlights are 9007 main low/high beam and 9004 high beam.  So how did you use the 9004 in the Sport as the low beam?  Or was that a typo?  Or do you run both 9007 and 9004 in the 100/80 bulb?

And also, I cant find the Flosser bulbs but Amazon has the same thing in HELLA.  Do you know if there's a difference?

Lastly...you said you experienced no negative side affects running the higher wattage bulbs, right? Thanks.

It was a typo.

My head lights are not sport so I have only the one blub, 9104.

I think you could use them, also, in the low beam position if the terminals in the blub connector are moved.

If they're 9104 they should be the same, 80/100 watt.

I found these on eBay

None, other than a twitch in my left leg.

Thanks IBMobile.  I mistook you for having the Sport headlights.

I'm doing as much research on this as I can but info is limited regarding whether or not I need to use a relay harness for running main 80/100 bulbs.  With an additional 70/90 watts running though the headlight switch and wiring, I'm not sure...

And sorry about the twitch too.

I would definitely run a relay harness if you're putting that much wattage through, you'll probably melt your headlight switch if you don't.
