Console overhead broke, any ideas?

Recommended Posts

In the parts manual, Figure 08A-430,   The overhead console has a part named "DOOR, Garage Door Opener"  (I guess your garage door open supposed to go)  Anyway the plastic tag that you push in to open broke today.  This is the little compartment that is near the mpg, trip meter readout thing.  Above the rear view mirror.

Any good ideas what to do with that space to make it useful?

Thanks

The part is described as  "door, garage door opener, part #OSN98TL2AA. That's for a remote garage door opener.  It's made so a remote can be placed into it, then with the cover closed the center of the cover can be pushed and the remote activated.

Op here...Well then I messed up.  The compartment I'm talking about, I keep a small calculator or sunglasses in it.  I thought I was close looking at the pic in parts manual.

Mine did the same thing a few years back and the part is still available from several of the surplus Dodge places for $30 or so if you want to replace it. I have always wanted to replace the whole thing just cant figure what to repace it with or the build it it out of.

Never really used either the sunglass storage or the garage door opener. Being I wear prescription glasses I normally just have clear glass lens and use clip on shades. So I never use the sunglass storage because too hard to dig out the clip on and not to mention I end up with fingerprints all over the lens. I keep mine in my CD storage sleeve on the sun visor. As for garage door opener, I had one years ago and the remote was way too big for the storage area also the button was in the wrong spot too. So I never used it.

Thanks for reply's.  I think the Amazon link is it.  Going to print out the pic to make sure and make sure I don't do any other damage getting old part out.  Not exactly sure how hinges unhook to remove yet.

As far what else to do with the space or ideas there are a few here.

The entire console is very easy to remove.  There aren't any screws holding it in.  There are to snaps that hold it in place, once those are loose you can slide either aft or forward (can't remember which) and it comes right out.  Maybe easier to replace that door with the console out...maybe not.

Remove the console to change out the sunglasses door. Fairly easy to do. A little on the expensive side if you're a Canadian ... $60.- CAD

I store chewing gum packages in mine.

The garage door compartment is fairly useless ..... removed all the plastic 'guts' in mine ..... have a package of business cards there.
