Ok here is where we are at.

After all this time we are growing fairly fast. This last year we took in roughly 100-180 new members per month. Lots of posting and communicating with each other. I've been trying to balance the budget of the server. In a nutshell, there are 4 programs that have to run.

  1. CentOS 6 Linux
  2. Apache 2.4 Server
  3. MySQL 5.7 Server
  4. PHP 7.2 Complier

Everything from there is extra. Keeping things balance we have 4 GB of memory on the server. So I tuned everything to work within its allotted 1 GB of memory per program for the most part. At this point, I had disabled the Redis caching software and the Elasticsearch engine. The site was having some strange lags on saving posts off and on. I tossed back in the Redis cache this seems to keep that lag at bay for the most part. When I tried to add back the Elasticsearch memory budget ends up going out the window and memory swapping occurs and the system lag returns. I even tried to reduce the Elasticsearch to return only 50 entries but still over budget on memory.

At this point, Elasticsearch is disabled and not being used. This will change how the IPS software returns searches. Like the Activity tab above. It renders differently using the FULLTEXT search of the MySQL database. Not exactly a good system but it works, it's like going back to the vBulletin days again.

This should impact the multi-returns of the activity tab too.
