Increasing Fass PSI

I have seen it before some where but cant find it anywhere... HA

Short and sweet: 

Where can I get a shim or make one to increase my psi on my fass 200 titanium. Heard of guys shimming with washers, but id like to move from a consistent 14-15 psi to 20 psi for my bigger IP...

The return line fitting on the pump. Remove the fitting and behind it should be a spring and check ball. Now there are a few things to do. The spring needs to be bent in a manner that the tail of the spring is bent in an L shape and just bent down into the coil just enough the check ball can't push into the coil and the ball wants to stay centered in the spring. Now that is done, measure the ID opening size of the fitting and the ID of the pump body. Now purchase a few washers that are close to both measurements. The fitting hole you do not want to obstruct that return flow. The washer has to have an overall OD size that is not going to bind up inside the pump body either.

Last picture is one thought of the spring bend. Mine is bent in an L shape to the center. The tip is bent downward slightly to cradle the check ball but prevents the check ball from wedging down in the coils.

All depends on the the bend of the spring. No exact science to it. Try the bend and see what happens is my best advice.

The mod to the spring is more for constant psi, so it doesn't swing much. Shims are more for psi change. You can lightly stretch the spring, but you're playing with fire there and it will settle some to, shims/washers is probably safer for long run.

I ordered a spring for a fass 150 for my fass 95, then cut the spring to drop the pressure. I hold a solid 18psi regardless of what i do.

Conversely, in your case you can call fass and order a higher psi spring,

I have been having issues as well. 

 

I recently received my new spring and ball from Fass. 

 

Im going to try the bend in the end of the spring because occasionally I get a crazy swing for a while then it settles out. 

 

Also im hoping this new spring fixes the pressure issue.  I stretched the old spring, per Fass, and that’s helped so I’m hoping it was a Friday/Monday spring because it’s the same length as the old one before it was stretched. 

 

Needless to say my experience with this pump and dealing with Fass have been less than favorable.

Mine should still be under warranty I will call fass and ask them if I can get a spring maybe if that's covered... otherwise I plan on doing what's mentioned above.

My experience with that was like pulling teeth. 

 

I had had to jump through so many hoops with them just for a new spring and ball. 

 

My pumps 9 months old with maybe 3000 miles on it. 

 

I highly recommend adding a test port in the line to vp and pick up the manual test gauge from Vulcan. 

 

You can can get the -an fittings and Schrader port from Vulcan as well.  Good guys to deal with. 

 

The gauge will also allow you to test the pump itself to verify the pressure. 

 

The first picture is test port fitting to splice in. 

 

Second is comparing fp at test port port to gauge. 

 

Last picture shows the test test port on the pump it self.

14 years on AirDog 150 with one pump motor replacement. So far so good. Easy phone call, pump was sent. Warranty was updated.

 

Ill admit I need to replace my spring and start over.

I installed a test port as well.  Another added bonus is that I can bleed air from there after changing the fuel filter.  I don't have to crank nearly as long.
