Alternator not charging: Getting Hot!

Recommended Posts

Since this thread got started way back when, I experienced an extremely hot alternator from having a bad cell in an one battery. The poor thing was running full amps trying to fill a bottomless pit of a battery. I replaced batteries since they were old and suspect and the alternator at the same time. I had an original Bosch with only 30,000 miles on it from my other truck. Everything is fine now. Don'trust old batteries everyone and an alternator can develop an internal short and get hot that way too so that 5 amp fuse on the blue wire is important.

Highly important... He's completely right. It would be best to replace the batteries (or at least tested) then replace the alternator make sure to test it before paying for the alternator. Make sure all the battery terminals are good and clean. That 5A fuse is very important to protecting the PCM.
