This morning I started my truck like normal, waited for the wts light to go out and she fired up. Took a couple more rounds than normal. Grid heater cycled like always. Get in and get ready to roll and I see the CEL. I shut her down and check the code. 1291 and that companion code as well. 1693 or something like that. So I turned the key and wts came on and went off after about 6 secs.  Started up did fine I went on. Got to work (35min drive) and shut her down. Turned the key and the wts stayed on just like it sat all night.  Turned it off and back on and it went off with the rest of the lights.  Same thing today after work.  So what do I need to look at first?  Could it be a bad ground making this happen.? Again the grid heater still works like normal.

Unreal Summit, I checked your location on our members map. Your down in Mexico where you should almost never need grid heaters. I say this because using them all the time can be damaging to your alternator. Most of us in the northern climates keep them disconnected at the drivers battery to help save burning a diode inside the alternator. You really only need your grids when Temps are down around 25  or 30 degrees.

Oh! Okay then you need the grids. If you can try getting buy using the block heater instead. Dripley plugs his in 3 hours before he starts his truck and lives close to the same area. Other second gen owners tested and found the alternator to be inadequate during grid heater use and can begin hurting the alternator diodes. (all the more important to keep all electrical in top condition if you have to use them).Drops of oil on the battery posts after cleaning is good.thing :thumb1:

I got my greeds on momentary push in switch like @Tractorman had his the entire time from truck being new. It workes like a charm, it will set 2 codes but it won't show up on dash. Then there is a better more complex version that @IBMobile came up with. 

To be clear both ways only trigger greed relays and not big power wire to greeds.

I live down in Hickory. My grids are disconnected and I do plug mine in when the temp gets into the low 20's. Even at 20 I only plug it in for 30 minutes or so. In that time I can raise the coolant temp 30 to 40 degrees as long as it is not real windy. The truck will still fire off without it plugged in, it is just that the truck is happier when I do that. I get heat quicker also.
