but will not cycle on when starter is bumped

First the ECM has to boot up and sense that the starter was bumped. If the ECM is not booting the prime cycle will not happen.

The directions from auto computer specialist also says that I can only use a factory Cummins lift pump. Not sure why.

Because aftermarket direct connect pumps like FASS and AirDog DDRP draw more amps than what the ECM is design to withstand. Full FASS and Full AirDog pump are fine with a protection relay. The other ones like AirTex pump etc. They again draw more amps to create the volume.

When I get a chance I’ll hook up a test light to the WTS wire coming from the ecm and see what I get.

You need the light in the cab. Being you have no way to read error codes being there is no PCM to start the CCD network nor the cluster to bias the voltage for the bus. Cummins Insite tool might help too if you have one. The WTS light should come on every key on cycle for at least a bulb test. No light, No boot.

I do have the Cummins pcm installed and hooked up. I’ve used my code reader and have pulled several codes before the ecm was sent off and now it’s still throwing the same codes after repair plus a new one. Codes are p0122, p0123,p0222 (new code)

p0237,p0336,p0380,p0382,

p1287,p1689,p1698

Note that I do not have the grid heater hooked up.

Were the old codes ever cleared to see if they come back?

The truck should start without lift running unless something is preventing the fuel from being pulled out of the tank. Mine still ran and drove after 2 seperate lift pump failures. Mine is an Air Dog but them and FASS are not that much different.

I cleared them twice and they come back. The vp44 only runs when wired to battery. It might not have pulled fuel on its own since I was still trying to bleed it. With the vp wired to battery it would try to start with the fass connected to 12v but not connected to lift pump plug. Also it will not attempt to start at all with the stock harness connected to the vp.

Codes are listed above. I won’t be able to check the WTS light till tomorrow. I’m on duty at the fire station and won’t be home till tomorrow.
