Programmer issues

Recommended Posts

I have an 02 dodge 3500 6 speed and a few months back my ecm went bad and the one I replaced it with is out of an automatic truck... truck runs as it should but my question is if I put a programmer (smarty) on it will it work as it should or am I going to fry my ecm thanks in advance for any helpful info

NP,  I am not a fan of the smarty, but it does do ecm updates well.   Assuming of course the memory on the ecm is not worn out.  It is getting more and more common to see the memory on these old ECMS kick the bucket when you try to update.

Not to say you shouldn't just that it is possible.

If it were me I would give it a go.

So I put the smarty on my truck at first start it has a rough high idle for about 10 seconds then drops back to a normal idle but when it drops back down my tachometer stops working and the truck has hardly any power and it’s making throw a code for the crank sensor wth happened my truck is useless this way

I dont think smarty does any tranny changes other tha apps values.

Maybe crank sensor is bad??.

I'm very curious about ECM updates.

Immediately assuming updates would be loaded on to smarty and then loaded onto ecm ?

You need to talk to smarty and get the right flash for the ecm.  It put a early flash on a late truck.

Early trucks have crank and cam sensors late only have cam.

Call smarty or bob wagner and talk to them

Sorry,

I should have been more clear to start, you won't damage ( aka fry)  the ecm but the wrong flash for the truck can cause issues with running.

Bob is pretty good at getting back to people so I am sure he will get you fixed up.
