Turbo Choices

Recommended Posts

Howdy there everyone, hope everyone is well and healthy! So during this “pandemic” slow days at work has given me more free time to mess with the 24v so I have some 7x.12 nozzles that I’ve had laying around but I know they’re way too much for my he351 because as of right now I still get tons of turbo shutter, looking at new turbo options, on Power Driven Diesel my preferred place to get parts, they have upgraded he351’s 62,64,67mm anyone have any luck with these? Or I’m looking at an sxe 362 or 364.5 if I was to go this route would I go a .70 or .80 t3 housing? I’m looking to be around 550-600hp on a single yes I know compounds the way to go on these 24v’s but man dropping 3k to do them is hard. I tow heavy 15k+ sometimes but not that often I don’t want too much lag as I like to DD this truck while also some back road street drags on the weekends. Y’alls input would be great I’ve read a lot but still can’t come to a conclusion!

3.55 gears, a tight converter, and towing heavy means there is no way i'd go larger than the .70 (12 cm) T3 on that SXE.

A 62sxe (62/68/12) would be an awesome 500whp turbo that would probably do very well with those 7x12s since you can turn them down on the low side of boost curve with the Quad.

I just upgraded my turbo but stayed with the Holset platform because i was installing a Pacbrake at the same time that hangs right off the turbo downpipe plate.

I did a billet wheel 60mm compressor with a 10 blade 64mm turbine and opened up my 12cm hotside to accommodate.  I love it... pulls hard and only spools about 200 rpm slower than the hx35.

Hey there guys, so I got an update, I receive my turbo Monday but I received an s400 Schwitzer (Borg Warner) with a t6 turbine from a friend, got it for free it was brand new in the box! Just has some surface rust from sitting a while does anyone know any specs on this turbo or where I can find any? he said he bought it for his 12.7 Detroit but never put it on. Could I use this for compounds with my SXE362?
the top part number is 167735

It would certainly be my last choice as a lower...but hey it's free right?  The wheels are a little small and the compressor housing is humongous and you'll surely have to get an adapter plate for the t6 mount.  I would think that it would transition much slower than you'd like and then not put out as much air as it should be for a hp minded compound setup.

I personally would pass on it and do it right the first time...but it won't hurt anything to get it all plumbed up and try it.  Since the plumbing part is most of the battle anyways.  Once you get all that done...a later swap to a better turbo will be fairly easy, relatively speaking.  Even if it completely sucks it won't hurt anything to leave it in there til you get a better one.
