Don't the 3rd generation trucks have a 6-speed (better) automatic trany than the 2nd gens? Can it be mated with a 2nd gen 5.9? What are the issues? Thanks

mate up? sure..although the 03 is most likely fully electronic controlled..

Dont know about the 6 speed

but the 48re was a heavier duty tranny than the 47re but only mainly due to the drums having differnt clearances and able to hold extra clutches.
