Hey guys! It has been a while since I've been on here but I'm getting ready to buy a 2005 Cummins due to Black Magic getting wrecked about a month ago.. I have been trying to figure out if it will have the HE351 or the HE351VGT?? What are the differences in them?

A stock '05 will have the HE 351; the same as my '04.5. The VGT version in the '07.5+ 6.7 trucks, I would assume doesn't require a wastegate, and would require a 'puter to control the vane position. How much "modding" do you plan on doing if any??!! For mild upgrades, this is a fine turbo (HE 351)..........although AH64ID will probably disagree with!!!!:2cents::thumb1: My truck (Mighty Whitey) put down 383HP and 78x torque shorty after getting the Smarty Revo. I don't need any more truck than that!!!In fact, I had a southern Illinois redneck in a gasser pickup wanna race me while I was drive to SEMO to snow goose hunt this past Friday!! I think he saw the "Mopar1973Man" decal on the drivers side window of my pickup topper and/or the lights from my "pillar mount" gauges!!! He revved it while passing me the first time. I ignored him. He did it again; so I made eye contact with the redneck...............wasn't even close!!!!! Running at 65-68mph, ain't too many gassers gonna take "Mighty Whitey" up to 100mph or so. The rednecks did give me a thumbs up once I slowed back down to cruising speed and let them pass me again!!!! Their truck was loud.........not fast!!!:2cents::smart:

Well right now it has a Smary SO6 with the TNT-R tunes. It moves plenty fast right now, but I haven't drove it enough to tell abuot EGTs really. I don't plan on doing much more with it for a while since it has more power than my old truck easily and I can't afford to spend a fortune on it!! I know it hit 105 mph without much trouble!!

It's not a bad turbo, it spools super quick and has decent air. With towing it can support about 350 rwhp in the PNW, and probably more in flat land. It's just super inefficient! I really didn't like 8 psi of boost and 12 psi of drive going 80 on flat ground, or 30 psi of boost and 40-50 psi of drive pulling my trailer up grades. It's compressor is designed for hp and flow and it's turbine is designed for emissions.

Not many of the TNT-R tunes will be nice to the stock turbo, TNT-R is designed for trucks with turbo, injectors, lift pump, CP3, trans, studs, etc... Regular Revo is what you probably want to put back on the truck, you can still get good hp out of it and it's designed with stock parts in mine.

Since I got called out for hating :moon:, here is an example of it's efficiency, or lack thereof!

All no load, in N. The GT3782 run cooler 95% of the time (low rpm towing is about 50-100° more, but that could also be from the manifold blankets) and supports my ~400 rwhp towing WOT up thru about 6500-7000 feet, where the HE351 ran out of at at about 5,500 feet and 350 rwhp. So the low boost on this test is not because the Garrett won't spool, it spools right here, right now when driving!

If you go back a few years to when emissions wasn't such a big deal you will see no load boost numbers closer to what I have now.

Again, the HE351 is not a bad turbo, it's just emissions minded (like the cam/OEM timing) that performance/efficiency.

Wow man thanks for all the info!! I bought the truck and it runs pretty well on 7 but I haven't towed anything with it. It feaking goes though!!! And the EGTs haven't been that high really either. Again I haven't really pushed it or anything yet either.
