Wolves in Idaho?

Yeah, he carries a .45 around just because of them. He had one pee on his truck's tire so now he pulls his gun out and tries to hit them, normally hitting the tire instead which is why he has 2 sets of tires.

Well, me, being in the North part of Idaho, we have had our fair share of wolves. I have not physically seen one as of yet, but have encountered tracks and the likes. Paw print was BIGGER than my HAND! My father in law saw one just north of town a couple years ago.Many people get to see them and even occassionally get visited by them even around their houses. It just depends on how often you are out in the woods or in the right spot.In CDA, ID, the local paper released an article last year warning residents of the city that they should expect to see wolf presence sometime in the near future. THE CITY!!!I carry a .45 and ALWAYS a rifle with me into the woods. We've got Grizzes, cougs, wolves and the infamous bigfoot.

Oddly enough I have not seen a cougar, yet. Bears are not much of a problem when you turn them into sausage!

Heck the funny thing is about open carry in Idaho I've now been in 2 auto parts stores and managed to get a nice discount on my parts for my truck. As for animal life not much problem with the animals typically. They mind there business I mind mine. It only when that decide that I'm a meal is when the 9mm is coming out. As for not carrying a weapon its seem rather foolish to leave them all at home under lock and key or back in the truck. What are you going to do tell the bear "Hey wait a minute for me to go get my gun then will continue." Same thing applies to a attacker... You going to tell them the same thing? Since 2nd amendment allows us to Bear Arms and Idaho is a Open Carry state why not?What really surprising is so far I've never had any negative comments about it. I've had lots of people ask me what I carry and why. I've also recruited several people for the Idaho Open Carry cause. I've even had other officers and law enforcement comment about my open carry and totally support it! Most people don't know that open carry is legal in the state of Idaho and has less laws on open carry than concealed which requires a permit and classes.

Down here in Colorado and Wyoming I had a wolf do that to my truck tire... So I ran him down and peed on him to assert my dominance. It hasn't happened again.

Hey Mike, what are the laws for carrying while in your vehicle? Ohio is open carry but the second you step in your vehicle it now bwcomes a concealed weapon, big no no. It just seems like a lot of hassle to stay on the legal side and open carry, more convenient (for me) to keep a ccw permit...

Same here in Idaho. The CC permit is required in a vehicle. To be open carry in the vehicle the weapon has to be on the dash and unloaded. Yeah... Big pain in the rear...

My buddy has a Dillon progressive reloader. He can load 300 10mm per hour. Bullets are the most expensive part of the deal. Only 11.5 grains of powder. These are hot loads and the magazine holds 16 plus one in th tube. Lots of firepower.

Can I ask what part of Colorado your in? I grew up in Laramie, my mother and brother and sister are still out there. Ive also got family around Wheatland, Douglas, and Cheyenne and an aunt down in Ft Collins.

Grew up near Fort Collins. I currently live in Parker (not voluntarily! too close to Denver!) and work in ND, SD, MT, WY, CO, UT, and NM. Wyoming is great. Like old Colorado, before the hippies.

My buddy and I chased 3 wolves up a logging road near my house last summer (we were in his truck, not on foot!). My buddy had a wolf tag in his wallet but they took off down a draw before we caught up to them. They were FAST and didn't much like the idea of being anywhere near us humans.Another friend of mine traps and got a couple on my neighbors ranch this winter. We hear them howling over there all the time. They are definitely around but very rarely seen.Here in Montana, as long as a weapon isn't covered by clothing it's not concealed. So vehicles (visible or not), purses, etc. are all constitutional (open) carry and don't require a permit. Most folks who conceal don't bother with a permit anyway.

Do you ever shoot cast bullets? They are quite a bit cheaper, I eventually started casting my own ,wheelweights make a great bullet add a little linotype to the alloy for defense loads to increase the hardness. Unfortunately they are getting harder to come by also lately..

From all I have learned and read about this from several law enforcement officials and lawyers is you had better be shooting factory loaded defense rounds if it ever came down to it, There have been many "Victims" put in jail for shooting someone else in self defense for not using factory loaded self defense ammo and instead used hand loaded rounds or other "Noncompliant" rounds.

This is one of the first things most lawyers look at and jump on.

This is one thing they actually hit on hard in any CCW class as well, anything to keep you out of trouble with the law even though you are doing the right thing.

I used to think the same way,until my CCW instructer offered his point of view. His experiences as a witness in court has shown this argument doesn't stand up well, since these are the loads you're practicing with. Using factory defense loads ie: "Hornady critical defense" could lead to the same line of questioning if you think about it. Simply put, his advice is you should be fine to load your carry gun with what you practice with, but don't go crafting special loads (like mercury filled hp's) with the intention of using them in "defense"! That being said my CC gun is stoked with commercial loads, but I hunt /practice/knockaround with cast..

Yeah, I cast bullets. Glock has polyoginal barrels and tend to not shoot well unless you have a Barstoe or similar aftermarket barrel. I've not worried about it much before, but we are talking about it now.
