So took a trip up to a local dealer who on rare occiasion's get's a Diesel truck in on trade for a new car/truck. He had a 2007 Dodge Cummin's From 20 feet the truck looked great all clean and shinned up. At arm's length tottaly different story. The truck was locked and i motioned for a salesman to come over. After a few polite's i asked him for some info and backstory on the truck. He said the previous owner told him it was a One owner low mile's 2007 dodge 3500 with a 6.7 and was totaly stock just debagded and Flatbed added .... Apperentaly they took the man's word and never even poped the hood or drove it!!!! He give's me the key's first thing i see is that it was not a factory dually so i keep looking to find that it was a 2500 with a set of dually wheel's. I told him the info he looked pissed he was told it was a 3500... Then i poped the hood to see a 5.9 under there and then informed him of the difference between a 6.7 and a 5.9 His face was blood red at this point. I noticed the velcro on the fuse panel and the cut wire harness and told him it was once chiped. The worse part was when he said it was adult owned never even used to pull with(Which was bull due to the fact the Gooseneck ball was pretty wore and had 5th wheel hole's in the bed and the resse hitch square was horribly wallered out) The Exhaust manifold shield was so black and red from extreme heat and the turbo was all kind's of color's. Then i laid down on the ground to take a look oil was coming from every where mostly from the rust hole in the patched on exhaust a huge puddle of oil under the truck nearly a quart. I assumed the turbo was shot I said "Did you not see all the oil leaking when he brought the truck in???" his reply "Well that just a Diesl thing all of them leak oil really Bad no worry"... He then asked if i wanted to start it and here it run i said "No you will do alot of damage if you do." At the point he fired it up and a bellow of oil and white smoke rolled out the exhaust tip. He then reved the truck and of course more oil flowed out. He said "Hop in and drive it down the road" I said "No way" so he replied "Hop in i'll drive it" Needless to say we went about a half mile i noticed the odometer didn't work(hence the before metioned low Mile's) and the trans was slipping horribly and the low oil light poped on so i reached over and turned off the key shoke his hand walked away to my truck He ran up behind me I turned around he looked me right in the eye and said $27,500 and you can drive it home....Needless to say I didn't come home with the truck...He has now lowered the price to $12,500 in only 2 hour's. I don't know if I feel sorry for the guy cause he might have gotten taken on the truck or the fact he was furious that i seen all of it's flaw's and called him out on it as he was tryin to unload it on me....

I really hope everyone learns from you. There is another guy on CF who bought on a whim and basically paid the same high price for a piece of crap. It's great that you're very aware of it all and didn't get scammed :thumbup2: However, there seems to be a lot of guys that aren't so lucky. The best thing to do would be to find someone that knows their way around diesels to come with you (if it's your first) and have them inspect it. Diesels have common issues and guys that own them know what they are (usually ). If you don't have a friend, look someone up in the 911 section because I think everyone would be glad to help. It's a shame guys are destroying trucks then suckering dealers just so they can then sucker us.

I did the same thing with both of my trucks. Even brand new I crawled all over the Cummins looking at everything. The 96 I did the same thing. I wound up with 2 very good truck that work perfectly when I bought them. Like I tell everyone if you plan on buying a car/truck wear you grubby clothes or have cover-all with you and take you time and inspect under the vehicle. Dealers always power wash and shine coat the top of the engine but do nothing under the truck. You'll be surprise how much damage or repairs you can see from under the truck.

A friend asked me to take a look at an 09 3500 single wheel for him last year. I told him I didnt know squat about the emissions equipped trucks but after talking to him agreed to go look at the mechanical integrity of it and let him know what I thought. So after work the nest day I stopped by the dealership. They must of heard me pull in because by the time I shut my truck off and got out of the truck a salesman was already there. I asked him if I could pop the hood and he said why dont we just take it for a ride. I said I would rather look it over first. So reluctantly he unlocked the truck and popped the hood. Immediately I noticed the compressor was GONE. The lines were just ziptied off to the side. I asked him what happened to it he said he didnt know thats the way it came in. I asked were they going to replace it he said no selling it as is to keep the resale price down  while he was giving me some bs about the ac lines I also noticed a plate where I thought the egr maybe should be. Got me to wondering so I popped my head under the truck and low and behold shes straight piped. He said its got a brand new stainless exhaust I said now why would a 3 year old truck need a new exhaust??:cookoo: i honestly think the guy didnt have a clue.

i honestly think the guy didnt have a clue.

none of them do. 90% of salesfolk are just like that, regardless of what product they're selling. Unfortunately 90% of customers are too stupid to know better because they come in totally uninformed and the good 10% of the sales force gets little benefit but a headache and bad rep that the rest earn for them. :2cents:
