Symptoms of Raptor failure?

Recommended Posts

I added an in-line filter behind my raptor pump. I found that there was no in let screens on the pump. But my fuel pressure at Idol had dropped from 20 to 15. So I guess after this exercise my only course of action was to adjust up the fuel pressure.

What are the symptoms of a raptors declining health? Is slowly losing pressure a concern? Is regular maintenance of any kind recommended? I noticed that the pump came with a large and small O-ring for resealing. I am hoping to beat the raptor failure inevitability.

Before I went and put a full spin on filter before my raptor, I tried putting a cheap in line filter in. It made my pressure drop about 3-4 psi or so. I took that inline filter out and the pressure came back up. I think those little inline filters are just to much of a restriction for a pump and lines this size. I now have either a Baldwin BF1212 or Fleetguard FS1212 before the raptor and I have never seen a pressure drop from that.

First thing to check is for fuel leaking into the motor, look at the wires coming out of the pump any fuel?

Next is to adjust up pressure some and see if you pressure drops between idle and WOT are the same as before or worse.

3 of the raptors I have had die started having very odd spikes and declines in pressure.
