A question for all.I have recently heard of a potential problem on the older 5.9, 's that I am sure most of you know about, but it was news to me. There is a dowel pin under the front cover that can work out and tear up the gears in the fron of the motor? And I understand the easy fix, I quess my question is, Is this still a potential problem on the 2nd gen 24 valve motor? or has it been adderessed by Cummins? Thanks in advance for "clearing the air"

Is there a way to tell if my Killer Dow Pin has already been repaired with the KDP Kit?Were all Cummins 5.9 24V 1998.5 manufactured with the KDP problem?Did Cummins ever solve the KDP problem during assembly?Any information will be appreciated, this KDP issue could be a very expensive repair which worries me.

I bought a front seal from cummins and not totaly sure of my self. Is the way I have them stacked the way it goes together? The middle ring is like a seal also, I figured it helps hold the top ring in place while you tap it down. Should I use a little oil on the crank to help it slide on?

Should I get the kit to resleve or just new seals? Also any videos on the subject?

What should I beware of when removing this cover? I have a leak back there and have never had one off. Do I need special tools to remove pulley? Cant spell harmonic balancer:doh:

Crank seal & timing gear cover gasket install For any one here that has or had or will have a leaking CRANK SEAL or Timing gear Cover...check out the link below..."hope it works" LOL. I was just wondering if it's important to worry about the KDP problem on 2002 models? I know they say that some have an updated case cover that fixes the problem & others don't have the fix.....Is the KDP problem very common on 02' models? I purchased mine new in May of 2002 & was just wondering if there is any way to know at all if it has an updated timing case cover?

what kind and where do you get a front timing cover gasket?do you ude silicone?now....what all do i remove to do this ?got oil leak from the front somewhere and the starter is oily and the ps. pump is oily it hate that...whatever....don't rag on it and stuff leaks...picture would be helpful if not just some words.got to remove the bed previous owner had an aux. tank in the back ran the hose down into the side of the filler hose..they took the tank out and left a piece of hose with a bolt in it and super glued around the hose into hose..filled up this morning...leaking on the ground.......the song by kevin fowler..pound sign....

I have a 96-24 valve motor, it has 300,00 miles on it and still runs great....but yesterday she started throwing oil out and over EVERYTHING....The timing cover is "cracked" they say the motor needs to come out to repair it???? $2700.00......don't sound right to me.Have any of you changed or repaired the timing cover on this motor?What could cause this condition?How bad of a job is it to change / repair?Where could I get a replacement cover?Is the timing cover on this motor steel or plasticMany thanks as always for your help. My front crank seal leaks like crazy. I'm looking to replace it again and this time use the Timken part to fix the wear spots in the crank, Does anyone have any good stories about this or any other way to keep it from leaking? Thanks!

I give up I don't know what else to do. I finished my 3 month project about 2 weeks ago... twins, injectors,cross overs, o ringed head, totally swapped the complete wiring harness ecm, pcm, all sensors and VP pump and NV5600 along with the cluster from a wrecked 02 to my 98.5, the problem is when I start it the tach works for 7 seconds then goes dead and I get the code for cam sensor problem, I've tried both sensors and both vp pumps, checked all connections, ran the cluster through the diagnostic test and still no joy. I even tried the cluster from the 98.5, everything on both trucks worked perfectly before I started this project. I think when the tach isn't working it is also detuned as I can only pull 40 psi with the twins and 240 injectors and the juice on 6. If I shut the juice off I cant hit 20 psi and it is a pig. Oh and the tach on the edge attitude works fine. What am I missing? Help:banghead:please....
