Seems I am seeing a lot of folks with problems that are going to require removal of the dash to fix. Be it a bad heater core. ac evaporator or cracked dash. I am stating this to let anyone know that this is NOT a difficult job as some would make it out to be. it can be time consuming but there is nothing special you have to do to accomplish this.No special tools are required, just standard stuff. Mike has a good write that I used and the LMC dash i bought had some good instructions to. I took mine out and replaced the dash and rebuilt the hvac box. I spent 2 to 2.5 days to do mine working at my leisure to accomplish it. I would recommend that if you have to go into your dash fore any of the above reasons, replace it all or you will just be back in there again. And again it is not hard to do just budget some time if you are unsure of yourself and the rewards will be worth it.

It looks like it is time to replace my heater core. While I am in there I plan to change the A/C evaporator and the accumulator. Am I missing anything that should be replaced at this time? Looks like Napa, Auto Zone, and Rock Auto all have the same heater core a "Spectra Premium". Has anyone had any bad luck on the evaporator and the accumulator on a specific brand? I have watched a video on removal. Any tricks that I should be aware of? I know the blend door is important to position that properly. Any advice is appreciated!

I have spent the past 2 days of my weekend replacing my severly cracked dash and a leaky heater core. In the process I also replaced my ac evap core. My heat had gotten to the point of the only way to regulate it was thru the windows. By that I mean the heat on full blast and opening a window when it got to warm, which was not to often since hy heater was not putting out alot anyway. I installed a new core and the Heater Treater part I heard so much about. The oe part for the blend door was broken and I am glad I had it on hand.I bought a replacement dash from LMC. The color match was spot on. The fit was very good. It was a fairly straight forward replacement. 90% of the screws were not to difficult to install, but the other 10% were a challenge. I used Mike's article for the HVAC rebuild for most of the work, but got a little inventive on doing both the HVAC work and the dash installl. I have pictures and will try and write it up in the near future as to what I experianced while doing both. I will say that the time frame posted for these were exceded by quite abit and if you attempt either one allow some extra time. Since this was my first time taking a dash apart of any kind, the unknown mutiplied the time frame that I needed.I would also like to add that I would never had even attempted something like this had it not been for this forum. The members here give so much confidence and info I feel notthing is impossible. Thanks guys.

Replaced my heater core last night, which was oh so fun, and came out to flush the coolant and refill this morning and now the truck will not start. It just cranks and cranks...When I dropped the dash I unhooked the 2 wiring harnesses from the column, the vacuum lines from the hvac controls and the 2 heater fan connections. Under the hood I had to disconnect and remove the computer on the passenger firewall to get to the heater box bolts. Other than that I can can't recall any other wires that may have been missed in re-assembly. Currently truck is sitting 80% drained of coolant with the lines off, fuel pump is working fine. I kicked on the heater controls to check and it is stuck on the defroster but shuts down when I turn the knob to off. :shrug:Hopefully a rookie mistake that's an easy fix! Any ideas???Thanks,Josh

So heres my problem. I just picked up a 2001 2500 last week. I don’t know a whole lot about this truck however it is not my first diesel. Use to have a 2004 powerbroke. I have no heat in the truck at all. The motor eventually warms up to the middle marker, takes about 35-45 mins. Even then once it has warmed up I have no heat coming from my vents. If I turn the heat on I get heat for about 3 seconds, then cold air. I live in Alberta and it’s -25c right now where I am so it makes for a long cold drive to work every morning and I would like to get this issue fixed, any ideas?
