  1. What's everyone one using for a map sensor? My stock one maxes out at 40psi. I'm suspect that I'm making more boost than 40. I have the quadzilla BT gauges and dont want to run manual gauge.
  2. This is a long story and I will try not to be long winded. This really started long before I became a member here and before my ECM crapped out so bare with me.. About 6 years after buying the truck my ECT just fell out. Very typical of a failed t stat. Thru the years and many t stats plus a couple sensors and radiator caps, most recently replaced them all again three weeks ago.Even sent one to @Mopar1973Man packed in one dollars and it worked fine for him. After installing a cheap Suncoast gauge from Auto Zone under the hood and it mostly told the engine temp was good. Something in the wiring. I hate wiring. About three years ago I started experiencing some surging in the engine, at idle and you could feel it under light throttle. It would pop some APPS codes during these episodes. Occasionally it would rev up to near 10% and pop a 0222 code and go to a dead pedal. I would have to pull off the road and wait for the pedal to come back. I did some diagnostics and it all pointed to the APPS. Had a Timbo and just did not want to buy another without knowing for sure. So I bought a cheapy off ebay for 16 bucks. Installed it and sure enough no surging. So I bit the bullet and bought a new Timbo. Put it on and every thing was good for about 5 minutes and the surging was back. I put the cheapie back on and no surging, but soon after it popped a 0222 code but still drove just fine. Cleared the code many times but always came back as soon as I started the engine. I got worried about it and put the Timbo back in and learned to live with it. Not the best way to handle for sure but it is what I did. Fast forward to about 4 months ago and all this started getting out hand. My engine temp was down to levels I have never seen. A few times I watched it drop from 170 to 135 on the scan gauge at the snap of finger. Surging was getting worse and the cruise was going wacky. Some days the surging was crazy and it would pop the 222 code, dead pedal, and then the cruise would not turn on until the engine would surge again. Just whacky behavior. The engine was throwing codes and the 4 seem to repeat themselves. 236, 237, 121, 222. The 236 seemed to be the first one of the 4 to pop. Not sure why but that how it was happening. I remember posting about this before and IIRC @Mopar1973Man said something to me about checking the MAP sensor harness or sensor not sure which now. But I did still have my OE MAP sensor from when the ECM crapped out on me so I figure I would put it in one day and see what would happen. Fast forward to today. I figured I would stick that MAP sensor in before heading back to Maryland. Pretty simple right. Well when backing the new one out I dropped the socket with the sensor in it and never heard it hit the ground. Should not be a problem beings it was a 1 1/16" deepwell socket with a sensor sticking out of it. It fell back in behind the starter and took me 30 minutes to find it. Not to mention its about 98* outside and 85% humidity and I am sweating like pig but did finally find it. Installed the old one and while trying to plug the harness on I broke the connector off of the MAP sensor. Guess it got brittle over the years who knows. Any way I put the old one back in and I am soaked in sweat and tired of F'ing with it all. I just drove 450 miles with no surging and temp gauge that read normal all the way up here. It swung between 190 and 195 the whole way. I have not seen that on my dash in 10 years. I am amazed but not sure how the MAP and the ECT are interconnected at the MAP harness. Anyway I am as happy as a mule eating briers but figure this will come back one day and need to figure out how this happened. Any thoughts are appreciated. So much for no long windedness but if I had told the whole story I would still be type for another hour.

  4. I have an H/O 6 speed exhaust brake 2001 3500 with 15300 miles now I was stumbling around here and found a thread on cleaning these sensors so I went ahead and pulled them out and and they where very black to say the least now I pulled a pretty good hill just to see where I was at on the EGT and boost then claened the sensors and the same numbers came up didn't seem to help right off the gitgo now should I notice a difference long term or should I be looking at somthing else. Truck seems to run fine no problems but you know could always use more power. Also I do have a banks performance chip don't remember witch one maybe this is over ridding these sensors any ideas?
  5. The truck fell flat on her face, dead pedal. got a 0237 code. Checking out the forums I've seen the code called Map sensor, Boost sensor, Turbocharger sensor. I just want to confirm that they are all one in the same. I found the part on Rock Auto's website for $200 just want to make sure it is the right part. Or if anyone knows where to get it for less. Also, I've done the adjust APPS to correct voltage. Is this just a patch till the inevidible and should just be replaced? Thanks.'02 HO 3500 6sp airdog, mbrp, edge w/att, aem intake.
  6. I have a lift pump acting up and replacing it Wed. On the way to this morning my check engine light came on and I got an 0237 on the code reader. I read the check list on the error code page, so my question is can the map sensor just go out causing the code or is there any correlation between a bad lift pump and a map error?
  7. I have a 99 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 diesel and I am getting codes, PO237PO251PO252P1688P1693 I know what they read, just not sure I know where to start first. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
  8. After reading some post on this site it seems I have low boost sensor voltage. Is replacing MAP the only cure. I tried cleaning, didn't find much on sensor. Sorry forgot to add truck seems to be running find. the only reason I looked for code was got new ScanGague today and it found the code.
  9. I recieved code PO238 & now need to replace the map. (99 24 valve stock) any special tools or tips on doing this, just a socket-size ect. Thanks
  10. This morning I started my 01 3500 like I do everyday. Everything seemed normal, after about 15 mins. of warming up, I got back in the truck to a check engine light. I checked the codes, I had two (P0237,P1693). I drove the truck and had no noticeable signs of problems. Is this something I need to have checked out? Any help Appreciated.
  11. My son has a 2002 Ram 2500 HO 6 speed manual. About a week ago, the codes p0112 and p0237 showed up.We took off the Edge EZ otherwise the truck is stock.Cleaned the IAT sensor. Did not look that dirty. The MAC Scan tool (determinator) was unable to read the IAT or MAP voltages. Not sure if this is a limitation of the scan tool or an ECM problem. We cleared the codes but they return immediately when the ignition is on. We checked all the grounds and cleaned the battery terminals. The batteries were both at 12.7 volts.Measured resistance from the IAT gnd terminal on the connecter to engine block and got 0-0.1 ohms.So I think the grounds are ok. Measured the voltage of the IAT signal return wire while running and it was 1.6 volts. (1.35 not running). So I think the IAT sensor is ok. We did step 4 of the p0112 error code trouble shooting. 4. Using DVOM, measure resistance between IAT sensor harness connector terminals. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to sensor ground in IAT sensor signal circuit. If resistance is 100 ohms or greater, replace and program the ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. We got 6.8 kOhms. We removed the ECM and measured the resistance between pins 7 and 11 and got the same value. So we think the ECM is bad.Is there any other DVOM tests that can be done to ECM to determine if it is bad?Can Cummins test an ECM on the bench (removed from truck)? If it is the ECM, where is a good place to get another one?
  12. i beleive i nee da new map sensor after reading on here just cleaning the sensor wont help where do i find a new map senesor for a good price if you guys can think of anything else i can do please help
  13. A few weeks ago, actually the day after that I had my flash done for high idle , I was going to town and experienced dead pedal for about 10 seconds and it threw a P0237 MAP Sensor Voltage Too Low code and tripped the engine light. This morning on my way to town I once again got hit twice with it lasting about the same amount of time, maybe a bit longer the second time. All three times were into a hill and I want to note that all times this happened was on a relatively cold engine. This morning it never tripped the engine light and I checked and I have no codes at all. First time I thought maybe it was map sensor just from where I had unhooked my programmer for gettting my flash done and then hooking it back up later, maybe a loose connection or something. I'm holding consistant 16 psi on the VP, no hard starts or anything out of the ordinary but this. Vp going out or possibly, map sensor issue, or something else? Wondered if I should start at the cheap stuff before hitting the big one
  14. I found a guy with an 02 edge comp for sale. Just wondering if anybody knows if it'd work in my truck. I plan to call edge but thought I'd see if anybody here knew first.
  15. I own a 2002 ram 2500 6 speed with the HO cummins, 145k, recently i was pulling my equipment trailer and upon taking off from a stop sign had what felt to be a dead pedal/poor throttle response, taking 2x-3x as long to get up to around 2000rpm than it normally would. Slight bucking would occur but more of the issue is the slow throttle response. No matter where the pedal position is, there is no change in throttle response, its just a matter of slowly building rpms. Even though the throttle response is slow, the truck will get up to 3500rpm. I did have a garage do a diagnostic on it and they claimed fuel pressure from the lift pump was sufficient. There is no excess exhaust smoke. The truck starts and idles well. Codes thrown are the following: P PCU 0122, 1693 P ECU 0236, 0122, 1693. I have already installed a new fuel filter. Resistance and voltage pertaining to the apps sensor were taken and were found to be outside the specified range so as to determine that the apps sensor was no good. Installed new apps sensor and problem still exists. Looking for any input. Many have told me that theyre leaning to a VP44 but arent exactly sure. Thanks guys. As this is my first post, i hope that i have been thorough enough with details, let me know if i have missed any. chris
