Hello all, I’m really hoping y’all can give me some kind of direction here. Sorry, in advance, for the long post. Let me start by telling you what I’ve got and what I know. I’m working on a 1999 Dodge 2500. A friend brought it to me after swapping from a v10 to a 24 valve. The engine, PCM, ECM, gauge cluster, fuel tank and engine harness came out of a wrecked 1999 dually so the year models match up. I’ve double checked all of the connections, battery cables, plugs, etc. and everything is how it should be. I was told it ran before he put it in but that it also sat for a year between it being pulled and then put into this current truck. Now, it won’t start aka it will crank but not start. Batteries are both good, cables are good, starter is good, engine turns at a good speed. I have NO codes, on the dash or with a code reader. So I started with diagnostics. Fuel system relay is functioning. It has an air dog lift pump, pushing a consistent 14psi to the VP. It has a new VP44 on it as the old pump had a seized rotor and was only putting fuel to 2 injector lines. While I was changing the VP, I did a compression test and pop tested the injectors. Compression checked out. 4 of the six injectors would just pee out fuel, the other 2 would bypass to return without opening. So he pick up some new injectors. Here we are, back together with a new VP and new injectors…. Still no start. Back to diagnostics. I check ground and voltage to the plug on the back of the VP. Pin 7 has battery voltage, Pin 6 has a good ground. Plug it back in, check voltage at pin 5, no voltage at pin 5 with key on. So these three things are telling me that the VP is getting the appropriate signal and should be running. Next step is to Hotwire the pump. I Hotwire it and it fires right up and idles. So it’s an electrical issue… I understand that the MAP sensor, APPS, cam and crank pos sensors all play a role in a happy VP truck but I’m not sure where to go from here. Again, I have NO codes. Can someone point me in the direction of what else to check and how to diagnose it? Or if I over looked something?

I'm currently searching through google and the forum for help. Posting because I'm confused as to whether its my PCM or ECM also clueless. Last night I was driving and I parked and shut off my truck. I did switch my tune to one I got from here but used previously without any problems. A few minutes later I started my truck just fine as always and about a second later it shut off. ODO flashes "no bus" / no wait to start light / overhead says "ccd" / gauges don't work / airdog won't turn on , cranks strong but gets NO fuel at ALL / connected scan tool but says it can't connect / also phone seems like phone can't connect to quad adrenaline some extra info about my truck-- 150hp inj / 650 trans / head studs /

Hey everyone! I'm looking for any help I can get. We just acquired a 98 dodge ram 1500 sport, 5.2L 4wd auto trans. The guy we got it from is not mechanically inclined, and told us that it "just died" on him one day, and has been sitting in his driveway ever since. Upon looking into it ourselves, we came to find that there is no fuel pump sound and no spark going to the plugs or the coil. The truck is trying to start fine, but will not turn over. We replaced the crankshaft position sensor and tried a new ignition coil as well. Obviously, none of that worked. Also checked all the fuses and relays, including the ASD relay. We even tried wire brushing the mounting bolts for the PCM, as they are apparently the ground for it, and that did not work either. We are now thinking it might be the PCM itself, and are looking into getting one from a junked dodge. I know that the P/N on the PCM (56046343AD) needs to match to be compatible. Does anyone have any other ideas or experiences similar to this? We are desperate. (Also, I've heard that without turning the key on, the PCM can lock itself when removed... is this true? And if so, how would you go about getting one out of a junked vehicle safely...?) Thank you in advance for any help. -Jess Sorry, I also meant to add that the gauges are sitting at zero, the odometer has been flashing on and off, and there is no CE light but we tried connecting 2 different OBD2 readers and one said "No Link" and other said "Error."

Hi Guys, I have a 2001 24v auto. It randomly will not start. Give it a few minutes or a day and it is good to go. It has a FASS lift pump (factory style) mounted to the block. I have bypassed the computer and installed a relay to the lift pump. It is a fuel issue. Could the injection pump be having a problem or voltage from the ecm to the injection pump? I am not sure where to go from here. Thank you

Dead again! Error codes with 3X key method P1693, P0215, P0521 Innova 3100 Code reader shows nothing.... P0215 shows fuel relay, I checked the PDC with a test light and I have power to the pin labeled 87. The relay showed 80 ohms between 87 and 86. P1693 ECM. P0521 oil pressure switch. The engine will not turn over, all the dash lights goes dead when I try to start, there is a very faint wait to start light . Even with a battery charger set to 80 amp jump mode, there is a huge drain somewhere. The grid heater wires are not getting hot either. I checked the other relays and I saw nothing major. Grid heater relay maybe? I was going to go boating on the 4th but the POST ruins another weekend. I hope y'all's trucks are doing better than mine. Thanks Have a Happy 4th of July! Independence Day! P. S. Just think folks, if not for the 4th we would have been part of the EU and Brexit

Got an 01 dually, replaced the lift pump, still no crank, tried the code display it displayed the p pcu then p done then p ecu then p done but no code inbetween either. Got a $300.00 code scanner on the recomendation of another tech, showed no code stored because check engine light not on. I am stumped as to the problem with my truck

I have a 98.5 auto, stock 24v with no start condition last week. Wasn't getting fuel but started after about 20 min. I changed fuel, air and oil filters and primed it. Started fine but no start next time. 50/50 start/no start over the next week. If the lift pump would prime by bumping the starter, the truck would start every time. Did a lot of stuff suggested on here and other places with no luck. Finally pulled no 9 fuse and ASE ? relay and cleaned bayonets Truck has been starting and running perfect the last 4 days. Any ideas?

haha.....so i went to change the fuel filter yesterday, took it out, changed the filter, drained the can(first time i've ever done that), put the filter in, and did the starter bump thing...the truck ran for 30 seconds, then died, so i bumped the starter a few times so the pump could cycle....after about 6 times of that, i opened the can to see if it actually was working....and of course it wasn't........ so long story short, i went to o'reilly's, got the Air Tex stock replacement and am waitin on reinforcements to show up to help me R&I..... now for the point of why i think so many of y'all gave up on CF...here's my thread over there http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/236254-f-m-l.html it's guys like black01 that makes folks leave........

Sunday morning the ole girl was deader than a door nail. No juice. :think:Had to go to my fiance and my wedding shower so I couldn't work on er till about 1800 last night. I threw a charger on it, not even 30 seconds later she fired up and ran like a champ. I took er up the street to make sure everything worked out all right, no issues. Went out this morning dead again. :doh:SO I threw the charger on it and it started with no issue in less than 30 seconds. Got er to work, Dead by Lunch. :banghead: SO now I'm thinking bad battery(ies), I load test them, both are weak but not BAD yet. SO I start looking, I find the wires going to the Grid Heater relay corroded to high heaven and making smoke with the battery charger on it, so I take em off only to find out they are some fuseable link also. I clean up my battery terminals and cables, leave the grid heater cables off. Charge it up and it starts great. Then is surged twice, and stalled. Now it will not start at all. :mad:Cranks great, dies quick. No Codes showing. Any ideas of what is going on? DO those heater grid cables ned to be in place? Any one seen this before? :shrug:Just went over and tried to start er again. She fired after about 15 seconds then stumbled and died.

My truck sputtered out on me this morning. Started just fine and ran about twenty miles and then it gave one quick sputter and it just died. It wants to turn over but will not. I checked the codes and there are none. It has been running just fine no probs. I pulled the injector lines and I am getting fuel thru them. I can hear the lift pump working when I turn the key. Its like it is out of diesel ? perhaps bad gas ? I had about 1/4 of a tank on Friday so I filled up and have driven about 40 miles total with the new diesel with no problem till now. I did not look at my FP gauge this morning, when I started the truck but it was working just fine on friday always right at 18. No codes it just sounds like it is out of gas ! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rob

2000 dodge ram 5.9 cummins, manual trans, stock except the air cleaner. Starts and runs fine 99.9% of the time and then 4 times in the last couple months it cranks but will not start. Put the tow rope on it in third gear let out clutch fires right up and runs good. I put new batteries, new ign.switch. There are no codes. You don't know when it will do it again until it happens. The fuel pressure is 10 to12 psi. It started this since it got cold this winter. I live in AK. Any ideas. Thanks 3 of the times the engine was farely cold once the truck was hot shut off for fifteen minutes and come back wouldn't start. Thanks

Hello,My 1998.5 24v would not start after a short trip to UPS. Had the truck towed to my shop. Sat for a few days until I could get a new fuel filter and water seperator for the FASS fuel pump, installed and primed, fired right up. Died after a 15 mile trip home.Sat for a few hours until I could get a 3/4 wrench to prime again. Got it started and drove 3 miles to my home. I had a hot rod injector pump that I really did not like so I figured it was time to replace. Changed pump, fresh injectors, no start.Read codes. Found bad connector for the mapps/boost sensor, repaired, new mapps sensor also installed along with a crank sensor. Also found a bad ground to the block located between the emc and the starter. Two different grounds one terminal. Ihave 20psi of fuel pressure. Having trouble bleeding the lines, some just do not want to bleed . Will not start. After clearing codes. No new codes . Any thoughts

OK, so I have my ideas about what this might be. Anxious to hear your thoughts.A few times now I have turned the key to start the truck and let go before the engine catches. So, I just twist the key for too short a time and the engine doesn't catch. Then I try again and it will crank and crank and now start for almost exactly an hour. Then it starts right up.There is an aftermarket alarm on the truck and I have no remote. Not sure if it ever had one. I cannot smell fuel in the tail pipe while cranking; so, no fuel is being delivered. When it does start, I will fire right up with just a small puff of black smoke at the tailpipe. So I don't think there is a ton of fuel flowing.Do alarms shut off the fuel on a diesel?bb
