Mobil 50 trans fluid update 2 members active in this conversation (including you) Mopar1973Man Not read yet Scottyv Read: Just now Scottyv 0 Started conversation: yesterday at 10:14 AM Hi, New to you site but long time follower of you on this and other sites you post, thanks for many great tips and advice to me and other 5.9ers . I just had my trans replaced while on a trip in Wyoming. the Guy who did the work seemed confident but he put "BG750 ultra guard gear oil". I was interested in your test with Mobil 50, I have followed your posts but was wondering if you have and update. (Im not finding the stock oil) and looking at Amsoil MTG or the oil your using. Just looking to change it out with a the most correct oil, I also just read that your trans broke. mine broke from third gear and the input shaft, so I opted for the large 1 1/3rd inch shaft. the Shop that put in the trans and SBDD clutch put in the following oil, (which concerns me a bit. Wondering what you think?) He filled the trans with The BG750 says GL5 plus Gl4 . (but I'm just not wanting to rebuild again in a year or so, due to the syncro issues. It shifts a little notchy in first and reverse. but there is only 1000 mile or less on it. Any advise would be helpful, I can go from there, Thanks BG 750 Product description says. BG Ultra Guard is the first "true" multi-purpose gear oil available in the automotive market. It is a synthetic (polyalphaolefin) gear oil blended to SAE 75W-90 viscosity and can be used in all car and truck axle applications calling for a GL-5 gear oil. It can also be used in all truck standard transmissions and automotive manual transmissions, transaxles and transfer cases calling for GL-4 gear oil, engine oil or ATF, as long as viscometric requirements are satisfied. BG Ultra Guard provides thermal stability, optimum drive line efficiency, quieter operation, protection against wear, pitting and corrosion, seal compatibility and improved seal performance, improved fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance, long drain life, extended component life, application versatility. BG Ultra Guard is covered by the BG Best Guarantee Program.

http://www.quad4x4.com/syntorqlt.html So since I know I got to put some sort of lubricant back into the transmission and NV4500 fluid by Castrol is no longer produced. So I called the shop that is rebuilding my transmission. He suggested 50 weight synthetic transmission fluid in a GL-4 rating. So I started digging around. I can buy a 5 gallon bucket locally for 50WT Synthetic GL-4 Transmission Fluid. Then did some digging on the Internet because I want to find out if any others where using the 50 WT transmission fluid. Guess what... Another rebuilder suggesting the 50 WT transmission fluid. http://nv4500transmission.com/nv4500-transmission-fluid Now as for the 50 WT its used on most over the road truck transmissions as well. http://pds.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/NAXXENCVLMOMobil_Delvac_Synthetic_Transmission_Fluid_50.aspx So I think I'm going to give this a go and when the transmission get here. Unless there is any other comments or suggestion of fluids.

I have aluminum flakes in my NV4500 oil looks like metallic paint What can be wrong? What is aluminum in the transmission?

So I will need to tear apart my NV4500 and replace the syncros because it grinds when I shift into second gear. If I double clutch then I can shift with out grinding gears, but trying to down shift is difficult, so I am planning on tearing it down to replace the syncros, just wondering if I should have any other parts handy to replace since it is opened up? It seems to be fine otherwise, no whining, the gear shifter is tight and it does not seem to leak any fluids. I do not know if it has the fifth gear fix or not? Thanks for any insight.

Hey guys,Well yesterday my NV4500 decided to lose 3rd/4th gear. Now I'm trying to decide on what to do.... I've seen that ATS and Haisley Machine both sell a NV4500 and I know I can buy the parts to fix mine. But my problem is I'm trying to decide what the best bang for the buck would be.... Would I be better off with a NV5600 or stick with the NV4500? The FSO-6404a swap is pretty cool but I'm not sure about trying to source all the parts right now. Any opinions on the ATS or Haisley trans or any other places and parts outlets?:shrug:I know I make well over what the NV4500 is rated for and I'd like not to have breakage down the road even though I don't generally drive that hard. Just seems to be a lot of controversy over which transmission is best/ worth putting money into....:shrug:Thanks,Winslow

Has anyone swaped a auto to a manual? How much did it run you to do it? I want to do this in the future and want to get some ideas on what I am looking at here. Is it a do it yourself or do you have to have someone do it for you. i am mechanically inclined but not an trained mechanic. Any idea on this. Thanks:thumb1:

I don't know anything about the clutch pedal or how to adjust it. Lately I have had to turn the engine off to get it to go into any gear when stopped. Has happened yesterday and today now. It's been flawless up till now so I think it just needs to be tightened up, but how do I do this? Do I just need to bleed it?

40 miles from home on vacation to Florida, the NV-4500 developed a second neutral, right where 5th gear used to be.A mechanic friend got us right in and did the whole job for $250.He used the Chrysler split nut and some synthetic lube he uses in the NV-4500's.It is a little difficult to get out of 5th now when hot (towing) and didnt used to be. Fine when cooled down.We didnt have Royal Purple to put back; we have run RP for 110,000 miles with perfect shifting.5th gear was a little sloppy fitting on the shaft splines, 250,000 miles of wear I suppose.Any thoughts on the split nut fixing the problem of the nut backing off?And any thoughts on why now it is hard to get out of 5th gear when hot?TIA
