There has been a lot of discussion about oil samples lately and another member had a sample with high Silicon in his sample and after a few questions found he had a good chance of contaminating the sample with dirt while taking the sample the wrong way. I took some pics of a couple different tools to do it the correct way to eliminate the chance of dirt in the sample. There are 2 different tools to get this done and I will attach pics of both here. - - - Updated - - - Here is a pic of an oil sampling gun with hose and sample bottle attached, also in the picture is an oil sample port that Cat uses on all of the component on their newer equipment, I also have one of these installed in my system for easier and cleaner sampling than the sample gun. Also as you can see the sample port fittings come in either o-ring boss or pipe thread to accommodate different places you would want to pull a sample from, Cat uses almost 100% o-ring boss fittings. In another pic shows the yellow rubber cap that covers the fitting and as you can see it is labeled as engine oil, on the Cat equipment different components have different colored caps and are labeled hydraulic, transmission ect.

Ok. Me and my dad were compairing the 24v to the common rail 24v side my side. I went and pulled the dipstick for the oil and looked at it and my dad noticed that the oil on the stick has a tinge of green in it. So we were both thinking that anti-freeze was getting into the oil some how. But here is the thing. Oil level is not raising any, oil is does not look a milky color to it, And it does not smell like anti-freeze is in there. So I thought maby there is some diesel getting in there but it does not smell like it is. Plus I am still getting same fuel milage I always have. My anti-freeze looks clean and green no signs of oil in it. Truck runs normal. So this weekend I changed the oil cause it was due for it and put Shell rotella T in it as well as Lucas oil stableizer. Drove it about 200+ miles and checked the oil and its still clean as can be. Oil pressure from the cab gauge runs normally. My dad told me that the oil should of been black by the time I traveled 200 some miles. This is getting me a bit worried about something so if any one has any idea or questions to ask me to help me figure out what going on that would be great. There is no check engine light on. Thanks

I finally got my oil analysis back. This is my first one ever so I don't know anything about the numbers on the report. Maybe you guys could help me out with whether these numbers are good bad or somewhere in between. The report says resample at regular interval. It was John Deere Plus 50 (15w40) changed at 10000 kilometers (6210 miles). I've tried posting the report but it didn't work so I'll just write it down here. viscosity------13.3fuel-----------0soot----------5oxidation-----13nitration------9water---------0antifreeze----0 silicone-------10iron-----------30chromium----1aluminum----8copper-------2lead----------2tin------------0nickel--------0silver---------0 molybdenum-129magnesium---25sodium--------15titanium-------0boron----------119potassium-----6calcium--------3083zinc------------1564barium--------0phosphorus---1447
