Manufacturer recommends oil to be changed at the 7,500 mile interval along with other things. I've heard of people going to the full 7,500 and some won't even go past 3,000.I know it's a dumb question to be asking but, I can only come up with 2 conclusions to this.3,000 miles can be pretty costly but, increases engine life as it's being flushed out with new oil. I guess those who can afford will do this.7,500 will be more cost effective in the long run but, you have just doubled the contaminants introduced into the system by doing it at this time. We all know that oil serves us 4 purposes, and that is, seal, cool, lubricate, and clean. Only makes sense that all four of these lack in their respective department by extending the interval. What do you guy's think?

After seeing that submerged axle thread I got to thinking about what other maintenance items I need to address, axles included, which I don't do now. Please take a look at my current regimen and let me know what else I need to be doing to keep this truck on the road. 5K - Rotella 15W40, Fleetguard Oil filter, tire rotation10K - Fleetguard Fuel filter25K - BG Transmission Fluid Exchange - O'Reilly's ATF+4100K - BHAF changeI guess I need to do axles too but I don't know how or really anything about it - mileage, type of oil, etc. Thanks fellas!

Now that it is getting colder outside I'm preparing to change oil in my truck. I live in Illinois just East of St. Louis. Occasionally the temps will fall below 10*F which is out of the 15w-40 range according to the chart. I'm curious what some of you guys do regarding oil changes and viscosity? Do you change oil in the fall to 10w-30 and then again in the spring back to 15w-40? I know I can buy 5w-40 but all I've seen is a full synthetic. I only put about 6k on my personal truck in a year, so when I had my gasser I would change oil at the 3k mark. I've only got about 2500 miles on this truck since the last oil change. I hate to change oil unnecessarily but again I don't want to damage the engine. I guess if I went to the 5w-40 full synthetic I could get away with changing oil once a year, but I am leery of doing it. I've never used a full synthetic in my vehicles and changing oil only once a year makes me a little nervous. What are your thoughts??

Out of shear curiosity, how long and/or how many miles do you go before changing your oil? What oil do you use? Myself I use Amsoil 15w40 and generally go about 6000 miles before I change it. I'm still programmed to change oil every 3000 miles so it just feels wrong to even go that long! I've read where some people go a whole year between oil changes and so I would just like to start a poll and see what guys are doing! Thanks!

I changed the oil in my 04.5.:stuned: Remember I had that gasket/seal replaced in April???? Well I did one more TP change after the work and sent in an oil sample to Blackstone. I told Blackstone of the work........front cover off, valve cover off, rockers and tappets pulled etc. The analysis wasn't bad, but they thought that with having the engine "apart" that I should change it. So I did. Almost 84,000 miles without a complete oil change!!!!I changed oil brands also. I found a super deal on Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 dino. This is the oil Cummins puts in their engines from the factory. Paid $11.23/gal........so I bought all of them off the shelf!!!! 7 gallons in all. Only downside is the fact that it's CJ rated. I usually see VPB for $15.00+/gal. It's a little darker in color out of the bottle than the WallyWorld SuperTech oil I was using. We'll see how it goes.

I have 701mi on my 08 the oil level is rising so what I'm thinking is to drain the oil at this time or should I wait for the overhead to tell me it's time to change the oil.I've always change the oil early on all of my vehicles the first time. My thinking was if their was some debris from assembly it would be a good idea to get rid of it.so what do you guys think.P.s. This should make a few of you laugh or cringe but I have the AD flash on my truck.I'm making an appointment to have the drag link replaced but I haven't shown up on the list to have the heat shield installed for the insulation under the hood? Will the dealer automatically update my flash level or am I better off unplugging an o2 sensor let it throw a code then plug it back in so they will update it?
