  1. Thx for the above info boys. Although the DS seams "better" this a work truck with no high hp goals. What I want to do is replace the intank pump with a length of hose thereby retaining the factory sending unit. Is this possible?
  2. Yes, unbolting bed is the route I think I'm going to go...I thought my lifters may needed adjusting or injectors cleaning but I see now my knock is caused at lower fuel pressures, thx for the specifics on whats possibly happening^^^Draw straw.... I'm worried about the 1/4 tank issue. Seems like its do to improper install but I saw a vid on utube where a guy replace his intank pump with a hose. I'm not looking to supply fuel for big hp so I think I'll retain the factory sending unit and just remove the pump.
  3. I've already got a connector spliced in at a ecm powered relay for the series pump that blew up so I'm just going to use that. Yes, push better then pull, it was moparmans suggestion that if I went with a ddrp to relocate it to the frame rail. I've been noticing since loosing my series pump (and therefore about 10psi of fuel pressure) a small knock I had came back. Would injectors knock with lower fuel pressure?
  4. You guys in the states prolly don't understand how expensive it can be to have parts shipped over the border... But to my utter surprise found a US based website (peak diesel performance) with a shipping depot in Canada so ordered a fass ddrp and relocation kit, which I paid the exchange on and got free shipping, woohoo... Will update when parts arrive and I'm ready for install.
  5. Yes, I think the second pump was starved but during my initial research I found that the intank lift pump has a bypass that will allow the truck to run even with a dead lift pump (not a good idea but possible) I've proved it won't bypass enough to supply a second strong lift pump.I tried to save some money and time and lost. My wife tells me often just to do it right the first time but what does she know anyways....
  6. Ah6, not sure what you're getting at but agree that pump should have been able to handle it. Someone mentioned early that the inlet screen on the intank might be clogged, might be why the second pump burned out....Abuse, maybe, I'm jealous of moparmans monthly inspections...They might not be rusted, your right, I don't really know. My main concern is doing it the easiest way. 2 bolts to drop the tank but you'll have to fuss with the connections between the bed and tank, 6 potentially rusted bolts but you have easy access to the sending unit and connections. Only time will tell how I proceed. One thing I thrilled about for sure, is finally having a good thread going ;)
  7. Yes, agree rational in above 2 posts. The deciding factor for me will prolly be fighting with 2 rusty bolts or 6...
  8. Ya, that's my next decision, drop the tank or lift the bed. Should prolly get under there and spray all potentially needed fasteners sooner then later seeing as I'm in the rust belt...
  9. Mike, noticed you run an airdog, is that the configuration you run?
  10. Not sure of warranty, going to look into that. I installed it early march so it lasted about 4 months and no more then 10,000kms. When I installed the block side pump my common sense said it couldn't be good to create 23psi with a source of 8psi feeding the pump but seemed like quite a few ppl on the forums had had luck doing it, unfortunately not this guy. So it's on to a permanent solution. I don't have any big plans for the truck hp wise just need it to be reliable for work. I wanna remove the intank pump and do a fancy frame mount unit but their pricy, what do you guys recommend for a ddrp?
  11. Kaboom, been hearing the block side pump howl every now and then and other day went from 23psi at idle to 5... Pulled the block side pump and now back to the original 8psi at idle I started with. Currently shopping for a permanent solution.
  12. I read about problems with too much pressure to the vp44 during startup, that's why I powered the "new" pump off the ECM powered relay. At start up, my gauge climbs to 5-7 psi then falls back to zero. That's what I thought, maybe not an ideal set up but I'll watch the gauge and worst case there's a filter between the pumps and vp to catch bits from a ____ off pump..
  13. Yes 2 crappy pumps, had I had a pump on the side of the block I just would have replaced it, I'm trying to avoid dropping the tank.always use 2 stoke as per moparmans outstanding researchPump brand is Alliant Power?Nope, didn't open up any of the banjos.Put 3hrs of driving on it last weekend and all was good.No worries about ignoring me guys, I only took it personally... ;)
