Anyone running one of these?

Hey there guys... here's my situation. After having no problems I parked in front of my work. Came out for lunch and truck would not start. This has never happened with this truck, always kicked right off. I had my truck towed home, and trouble shot what I thought was the Raptor liftpump was inop, as no fuel was getting to the VP44. Had them send me a new pump as this was in warranty, and I installed it yesterday. I got the truck started, and thought everything was OK. Went to drive it about an hour later and had to crank it for probably 20 seconds before it started rough, then smoothed out. I was going to go into town with it, but as I was driving there I thought better of that and decided to drive it back home as maybe it wouldn't re-start. Sure enough I got home, shut down and it wouldn't restart. I troubleshot the Raptor, and discovered that it was not delivering fuel to the VP44 (FYI this happened several years ago with one of these pumps, stopped functioning within a day, so I had it in my head that this was the issue). Cranked the engine over and felt for suction at the inlet of the Raptor, only suction was when the engine was cranking, i.e. the VP44 was pulling suction through the Raptor, and the Raptor wasn't working. I should add that I could tell that the Raptor motor was running, could see and feel it. So I called Indiana and they suggested I prime the Raptor with motor oil, which I did and did get it to pump fuel to the VP44. I primed to the VP44 and could not get the truck started. I have confirmed that there is fuel to the VP44 inlet, and have pulled the following codes: P1698, P0216, P1693, P0602, P1687, P1694, P0500. I know that some of these are thrown from using the Smarty, which I have set back to stock in the process of troubleshooting this. After clearing the codes I again tried to prime the VP44 by Mikes process, cranking for 30 seconds at a time and then letting the starter cool off. No Joy. Checked for codes after this and have none. I'm leaning to the theory that the fuel starvation caused by the Raptor not pumping has fried the VP44, and that when I started after first replacing the Raptor, the VP44 was pulling fuel through the Raptor and caused the failure. I know there is a lot of experience with this stuff out there...can anyone shed some light on this before I go buy a rebuilt VP44? Thanks

So the other day my truck would not start. When I turned on the key, the WTS light did not come on, then it would crank and crank and not fire. I opened three injector lines, but no fuel was coming out of them as I cranked. I finally used some starting fluid to get it running. Two of the lines still did not have any fuel coming out of them and the truck was running rough. I closed all the lines, reved the engine up and it finally started firing on all six. I was able to drive it, even shut it off and restart it, but then a few days later when I tried to start it it would just crank with not fire. I checked the voltage going into the VP44 and I do have voltage in what I think is the correct pin. I am not getting any error codes, but am wondering if it might be the injection pump that is bad and not the electronics? the reason for this is the fact that when I opened the fuel lines, even when running two of the lines did not have fuel squirting out of them. Any thoughts of other things to check on before I replace the injection pump. Also, I have taken out the auto trans and replaced it with a 5 speed, do I still need to use the S.O. injection pump? I am not sure if I will gain anything as I do have 75 hp injectors, so it may be just as simple to stay with what I have?

99 Ram 2500 4x4 auto 5.9 24V bought it with 89K on it now has 116K. The Issue I have is intermittently when it starts it has a ideal lope for about 5 to 10 seconds then ideals normally which around 740 -750 rpm... occasionally 800 rpm... The problem is/was magnified when I installed 75HP injectors... bigger lope like it had a big cam in or something... but again it would ideal normal after 5-10 seconds on it own or if gave it some pedal... it would also like to stall when putting it in reverse with the 75hp injectors sometimes... the problem is only at start up truck runs fine other then that... I put the stock injectors back in and still does it just at a smaller lope...(problem has not worsened with time) I really would like to run the 75hp injectors but the loping is like a pulling truck and the stalling is annoying... any ideas? thx guys

HI, I was reading the article on Fuel pressures for the VP44. I have a couple of questions. My truck is a 1999 and has 87,000 miles, the stock lift pump went out in 07, 57,000 miles and was retrofitted with a new lift pump in the tank, along with a new filter assembly. The truck was running good, the other day I stopped for about 30 minutes got back in the truck, started right up idled perfect, but stumbled above an idle, so I idled home, changed the fuel filter, had a very hard time starting it. I primed the system about 5 times before trying to start it, it finally started but real rough. The next day I rented a fuel pressure gauge, I have 10 lbs at the filter, I checked fuel at the pump have fuel, no fuel except #4 injector, 12 volts at the VP44. 2-codes at first, PO252-P1688, now just the P1688. So I was set to order a pump, then I wanted to check the pressure one more time, I still have 10lbs, but when cracking it drops off to 0, I thought the other day I had 10 lbs all the time, but not sure anymore. Questions 1st the pressures listed in your article are those for the stock frame mounted lift pumps or the retrofitted one in the tank like mine. 2nd, should my pump be pumping when cracking, I know the pump comes on for only 30 seconds when you bump the switch, but how often does it run when the truck is running? 3rd, with the codes I listed does it sound as though the pump is dead, and do they go out like that?
