A friend of mine has a 2001, the problem is that he developed a small coolant leak from the front of the head between the head and block. We re-torqued the bolts and it helped, but still seeps! Anyone ever just replaced the bolts and torqued them to factory specs? Can you get the rear ones out? Are studs a better way to go? Obviously he should remove the head do some work, we are hoping for something less stressful!

I just found a leak on the rear of the head at the gasket. It leaks coolant but only when its cold. Once its hot it stops. Is there anything I can do to get a little more time out of it? Will it cause any damage to wait if I keep a close watch on it? Also should I have the head gone through when I have it off? Should I get head studs, and does someone have a kit with studs and all the gaskets? Thanks for any advice (192,000 miles)

oil growmig and coolant shrinking
dripley posted a topic in 2nd Generation Dodge 24 Valve Powertrain
it have to really shorten a story here. pulled my rv for the first time in a while. pulled it over the bluridge mountains at 22,700 total. notice on filllup that i had oil on the rv and the under carridge of the truck. check my oil and i have an extra quart in the crank case. figure i have a leaky injector or 2. been wanting some rv 275's for a while and ordered a set from DAP. GREAT PRICE AT $269 + $100 core. drove to my daughters house to install and sprung a coolant leak just before arriving. spent the day installing the rv's and then dealt with the coolant leak. from the best i could tell it was coming from the water pump. could not see it well enough to tell for sure, but it appeared to be streaming from the pulley on the water pump. got a new water pump and installed it. the leak was reduced but still there. every time i tightened the bolts a little more it got smaller. but i felt i was overtightening the bolts big time. it is late and i gave up on fixxing the leak tonight but wanted to drive the truck and see how the new injectors were working. so i put another gallon of water in her and took her for a spin. i mile out and one mile back. parked the truck and no water leak.temp is now at 180+, it has apparently stopped. and i cant make it leak now.have i missed something or do you have to drive the truck to seat the gasket? it was rubber and fit into a groove on the pump. does it take operation af the vehicle to seat this gasket?- 29 replies

Antifreeze in the fuel tank
rainforestTom posted a topic in 2nd Generation Dodge 24 Valve Powertrain
99 Dodge 24 valve. Had the lift pump changed to teh tank about 5 years ago. Threw a Injection pump code and intermittant flat pedal and put in a new injection pump just before Christmas...HoHoHo. The code returned along with the flat pedal and the shop says my fuel is antifreeze green and my level is down in the radiator. Apparently the fuel return goes throguh the head and there it is picking up antifreeze? I have had this truck 7 years, bought it used. I am meticulous about watching the temp, and have never over heated it, and do not over rev it. Now I apparently need a new head? Only 125,000 miles. Ever hear of such a thing? Any options out there? Color me frustrated/disappointed, and broke.- 2 replies

I just notticed this morning after arriving at work that I have a slow drip. I tried tightening the plug but it Will not tighten up enough to stop the drip. I searched it and of course it can't just be a normal frickin screw in plug . Anybody deal with this drain plug before. Thoughts suggestions ? I am at work so don't want to mess with it till I get home. Thanks Rob

I rebuilt by '01 24 valve truck and ran fine for a day. After driving about 5 miles to the store it started leaking on the passenger side at the oil cooler. Is there a particular trick to putting those on? Also another possibility is the AC bracket. When I put that on I didn't realize a gasket went in the block. I got that gasket and ordered the oil cooler gaskets to put in tomorrow. I'd appreciate any advice or insight on that.

Have an '01 3/4 with an automatic that I rebuilt the engine and ran across something if I can get some help with. The AC compressor bracket is also where the lower radiator hose connects and then bolts to the block and has a water jacket. Looking at it, it looks like it may take a gasket inside it. Does anyone know for sure and if so know what the name of it is?

2002 3500...smelled antifreeze when driving..got home and saw that coolant was spraying in a small stream out of a tiny hole on the passengers side on the back of the cylinder head.Is this a small plug that came out or is it there to let you know there is a bigger problem like the weep hole on a water pump? thankx for any help!
