my truck recently started getting "stuck" in 2nd gear. @idle the truck will have a slight vibration when it is going to do it, during light acceleration the truck stumbles or misses and approx the time you reach 17-2000 rpm and release the accelerator the truck stays @ approx 1500 rpm until the tranny is shifted into neutral or it corrects itself, under heavy acceleration the shudder disappears however if acceleration is heavy once it is stuck there is a rapid clunking sound that i cannot pinpoint its origin. Fluid level was low, within the safe crosshatching, topped it off, have tried tow mode with no change. I've read several posts on the gov press solenoid and switch, im leaning toward that but none of the symptoms i've read mirror mine. I read the posts on here about the alternator diode, but from what i can gather my alternator wiring is different than the ones affected. All help is appreciated.2005 5.9l 48re 4x4, 168k

I would park it and drop the tranny pan and look for signs of failure in the form of lots of metal, clutch fiber or chunks before driving it any more.Have you checked for codes in the pcm?
