47RE kicking out of O/D
Annnnddd we're back.. Last week, lost 3rd and no OD. Went ahead and replaced the cheap OSS sensor with a mopar sensor, no change. So after replacing the governor pressure transducer/sensor and solenoid, the truck will go into and hold 3rd gear fine now, but overdrive isn't engaging.. I wasn't thinking but we should've replaced the OD and lockup solenoid while we were in it the first time but...doh.... Anyway, I read that to possibly isolate the issue to mechanical or electrical, to hook a high psi pressure gauge to the Overdrive line pressure test port above the rear cooler line fitting, so we did that today. Did 6 tests, running up from 1st. Everything goes fine up to 3-4 shift, not even a hint of wanting to go in to overdrive, On 2 of the 4 tests we did see almost 80 psi of pressure and sounded like it tried to go in and then it immediately dropped back down to nothing... But as for the other 4, never a raise in pressure..and I did verify my gauge was working by testing it on my truck.. and it performed as expected. But on my dad's, nada. I also jumped the Brown O/D ground wire to straight to ground and nothing happened. Now I would think if it were a blown seal or pressure leak in the OD Unit when OD engages, pressure would rise some and then fall.. I could also tell when fluid entered the gauge line.which it only did twice Any suggestions are appreciated....

47RE kicking out of O/D
Well I think the old man's truck is fixed... I had a gut feeling before tearing into the trans, something less invasive should be attempted first, after some more reading about the 47re online, and noting some "weird" issues caused by the output speed sensor, we removed the OSS and found this. ,(see picture) Installed a new speed sensor and he took it for a test drive, got it up to operating temperature and drove 30 miles round trip with NO issues, and most important,no random kicking out of overdrive. Which before you couldn't go 5 miles without it happening.

So at this point i'm thinking we should do the band adjustments and a solenoid upgrade. What do y'all think about this kit. https://www.oregonperformancetransmission.com/product/OPT-A518-A618-EL.html also want opinions on maybe doing a shift kit too? https://superiortransmission.com/product/superior-k500-618-l/

I would say no more than 30K...and that's a little generous. It sat for a few years without being driven.

47RE kicking out of O/D
Quick update, after replacing cable ends, cleaning grounds, no change. Replaced the APPS sensor and did the relearn procedure and i cleared the code and so far that P0122 code has not come back and he's driven it everyday, which to me seems a little odd as that code in the manual tends to point towards a wiring short. He also swapped trans relays, and it did better got up to 70 before it started dropping out of O/D. Would band adjustment have anything to do with this?

47RE kicking out of O/D
I don't know if he did the WT mod fully, he rerouted a ground wire that runs with the alternator wire that runs across the front of the engine and behind the alternator and ran it across the top of the front radiator support .

47RE kicking out of O/D
I said i'd have some questions about my dads truck so here goes... 2001 Ram 2500 24 valve, 47RE automatic. Transmission was rebuilt years ago before he had the truck. not sure what all was done to it specifically. It will randomly kick out of Overdrive sometimes cruising around 55mph, sometimes cruising at 60/65mph. It will kick in and out of overdrive 2 or 3 times in a row and then go back in and hold. When he first described the problem to me i wasn't sure if it was O/D or Lock up giving an issue.. So i did the first test in the Alternator noise thread about isolating the alternator by removing the field wires and removing the 140 amp fuse in the box, went for a drive and the problem persisted and i was able to see that when it drops out it goes from cruising at around 18-1900 rpm at 55mph to 23-2400rpm at 55mph, so at this point i was certain it was Overdrive dropping out and not TC lockup. Now my next question is he has a P0122 'A' code for APPS sensor, could this have an affect like that? We've done that APPS reset procedure for the heck of it and it had no change on the problem. I'm not sure if the APPS has any play into transmission shift control or not.

Hi everyone
Hi I'm Travis. recently bought my first 2nd gen just over 2 years ago, half ton V8. I really didn't know much about the gassers and didn't really need a diesel as i do not haul much at all, so after some research, i found this 1998 on marketplace for $2200 with 180,000 miles on the engine and 4 year old rebuilt transmission . Worst issue was fuel would leak out of the top of the fuel pump housing when you filled it up all the way, but that was due to someone not putting the lock ring on correctly, it basically cross threaded or only threaded on half way. So a new fuel pump and the ring installed correctly fixed that, then a new windshield was needed. Put a waterpump and new hoses on it and thats been over a year ago now. She's gotten me to and from work and everywhere else i need to go with no issues. So far the intake is staying free of oil so the plenum gasket appears to have not taken a dump yet Put a relay harness and sport headlight swapped it last year, boy what a difference in lighting! The only trouble it gave me where i couldn't drive it was the 02 sensors went out, put some NTK sensors back in it and she's been great ever since. Outside cosmetically she's a 5/10.. clear is peeling and hood and roof are faded some. But it's a work truck and i don't need any prizes And my dad has a 01 24 valve, which i will probably needing some advice on at some point.

Magnum Thermostat housing bolts
That was exactly what i needed, it showed the bolts in the break down and gave the description of .312"-18x.94 so if my 'ciphering is correct it is a 5/16-18 that is 15/16" long.. so just under an inch long. And the MOPAR number of 06034549 which so far is showing up NLA wherever i've looked online. But this is a huge help, thank you.

Magnum Thermostat housing bolts
Need to put a new thermostat in my truck , 1998 5.9 V8 Magnum, it appears someone has been in it before and appears to have probably lost one of the housing bolts and used a longer bolt as one is spaced up about 1/2" or so.. So if possible before i remove them i would like to know what size the factory thermostat housing bolts are so i can have them when i replace it. I've found a few results online for thermostat housing bolts but nothing that is a verified fit. Thanks.
