Truck loses power and wires are cut
Ok here is the most recent news on our dodge. We received and placed the draw straw, it fixed some of the issues. The most recent fix was the injection pump, it took us a while to save up, but it is now on the truck. It still has some front end work and brakes to be fixed, but it is running better then it ever has. It needs fine tuning but it starts and runs good. Thanks for everybody's help, if more questions come up I will post them. Thanks again especially, driply and mopar1973man, you guys were the most important part in this fix.

Ok this is all good info. We will look into both Air Dog and Vulcan and decide which one will work the best for our application.

Ok we will look into the draw straw. Thank you What one should we get on vulcan, this s a stock truck it will be used as a truck and to pull a fifth wheel and maybe gooseneck trailer. It also has a airtex lift pump.

So the draw straw will bypass the screwed up sliding mechanism?
-
Truck loses power and wires are cut
Ok I will try that. The book shows the same module for gas as diesel and with no pump on it all it has to do is read the fuel level and allow the lift pump access to the fuel.

We can find one for a gas engine would that work. Does any one know why it has to slide up and down cause we can fix it in position, but not sure if that will work. And no it does not it moves everwhere, when we took it out it wasn't even connected to the bottom it was just moving around the screws were in the plastic part and the metal part was just there not attached.

This truck is all stock it doesn't have the retrofit pump it still has the stock sending unit with no pump.

So where do we find a fuel module aka sending unit for our truck. I can't find any on line and it is so screwed up that we think it is causing all the fuel issues. It is not the pump, it is the pick up unit with the float.

We have an airtex on the block, just didn't know if a gas one would work or if you can run both of them together, or how you would get the power to the pump, if that's the only one we can get.

Ok we have probably a stupid question. He got the tank out and the fuel module out and the module looks horrible, the screws on the sides that work the slide movement will not work, the metal has no support where it is suppose to be together, and it has been sitting on the tank bottom. We were wondering if a gas sending unit is the same as the diesel one, I have looked for one on line and can only find the gas one or one with the pump, we don't need the one with the pump, it is oem (carter). Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Ok here is the latest, as soon as the rain stops he is going to check voltage on the wires coming into the lift pump then he is going to check the tank and see if there is any of the diesel crap in it, from there he is going to do the stuff you talked to him about. Hopefully that will get us some relief for now and allow us to start thinking about the VP and how we are going to fix such an expensive item.

Truck loses power and wires are cut
Ok with alot of help we have figured out that the lift pump is going bad and with the previous owners the pump went out so that caused a lot of issues for us to figure out. We have came to the conclusion that it needs an injection pump and an ecm along with a new lift pump. But with those items being fixed it should keep us going for a long time. We just have to find the money to do the two high priced fixes. After that we will have front suspension and minor body work, then we will have a truck that will be our last truck we will ever need. The interior is in really good shape which is good cause it is leather and I will not have to redo it, aside from it needing a headliner it only needs a good cleaning. Thank you for all your help we will be posting how it is coming along, again thank you.

New fuel pump didn't fix it. This is depressing, he is going to drop the tank and see what's in there.

Truck loses power and wires are cut
Do we just let the pump run or do we start the truck. We are located in arkansas. The north west central part of it, where are you located, I know that mopar man is in Idaho.

Yes the pump will run with the key on, so just let it run to cycle it through, about how long? Do not start it right. So what do we do after that. And thank you for helping us through this. He is also going to check and put the electric grease on all the connections. You guys have been a great big help. Also not sure if I mentioned the weather here, it's supposed to rain for about 5 days, so we will have to wait till the weekend unless there is a break in the weather.

So now that you have seen that post on CF what do you think. I don't think that it can be the VP , the truck doesn't run crappie all the time, only sometimes, if it was the VP would it not run like **** all the time. That is why we are frustrated with this whole situation. It ran great this morning it didn't skip a beat at all. But the code everybody says that that's the big code, but yet I can not find it anywhere to tell us just what we are dealing with. We really just want the truck to run great all the time and not just when it feels like it.

Thank you, I guess we have to start where the problem started and that would be the lift pump and also the alt. we have the shop down the street that I'm sure can test the alt. and if it is to high in ac noise, we will see if he can rebuild it. Once that is fixed we will have the new lift pump Tues, hopefully we can install it that day since there is rain forcasted for a week and we don't have a shop the truck will fit into. We also need to drop the tank and see what it looks like, since he does have some experience on diesels he knows that they are bad on mold and crap in the tank, he has wanted to drop it since we got the truck. Today he is checking the battery connections and wires, also he took off the jump wire to the lift pump and it didn't start hooked it back up and it worked. The frustration is starting to get to him he is used to finding the problems and fixing them this one had a lot of problems but it still is not fixed. Also I have left out of the post on purpose codes that keep showing up I'm sure you know the codes. I have left them out cause everyone that hears that says that's the problem, but would the truck run great and then fall flat just for it to clear up and run great again. Now to add to the last part of this post, the truck this morning has not fell flat at all, it started fine and ran fine, there has been no sign of it messing up.

Truck loses power and wires are cut
Ok so that's a lot of money, any other ideas, we don't have that to spend. I guess all we can do is try to find a used one already done or find one on a wreaked out truck. I guess that will be one of the things I need to look for. He has already decided to drop the tank to look for the sock filter we are in hopes that there is one and that there is a lot of crap floating around I the tank. Do you know if the 98.5 (99) has a tank pump.

So about how much are we talking about on a rebuild. And how long will it take. We are just wondering.

Truck loses power and wires are cut
So what did you do. It looks like we will need one in the future if we keep the truck. Ok so I was reading some other post that you wrote, is there another pump in the tank. Our truck is a 98.5 laramie slt 5.9 cummins, but of course you already knew it was a cummins.
