I have a DaveG tranny and today it acted strange. The outside temp was 12* and it did not want to shift out of second gear (2000RPM, 48MPH) until I went about a mile. It then would not go into O/D until another mile. Warmer weather it is fine. Any ideas?

I could see the cold thick fluid if I was running some hydraulic oil and the temp was -40*, but we are talking synthetic (ATF+4) tranny fluid. I haven't had the opportunity to e-mail DaveG yet. The truck isn't getting used much right now so it isn't a priority. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for me.

Have you checked the fluid? Not sure if low fluid would do that or not but maybe I don't know much about autos.

Transmission is full and as long as I let it run for a bit in neutral and allow it to build a little heat it does fine.

ECM will not allow it to shift into OD until the coolant temp is around 140* IIRC. Edit;I see you have a 96 what I posted is for newer 47re trannies not the older 47 rh like you have.

I have an early RE. The last of the RH was 1995.

I forgot about that. Today it was 20F and the redline I put in the nv4500 shifted incredibly. Amsoil was crap and the dealer stuff was kinda crap but this redline stuff is awesome

is it really isx?you sure had bad luck with the "other" brand..so are you gunna run there oil?

Amsoil made my 4th gear grind like crazy. Redline is slowly fixing amsoils mess. Winter driving is night and day difference. I have never ran redline before but they have me convinced now. I couldn't tell a difference between today and a day in the summer whereas amsoil and syntorq both like to make it shift crappy in the cold. There is no way amsoil is ever going back in, if you guys heard it, it sounded like grinding a piece of steel from 1000-1500 rpm. Redline has made it quieter and quieter since I put it in and thats after only 500 miles.
