I'm getting bad chatter in full lock after I moved the fuel plate, adjusted the starwheel and turned in the smoke screw. I was hoping that if I drove easy I could avoid this. It's hard to feather the skinny pedal to avoid it. I backed off the starwheel and think it may be a little better with the slower transition of fast power. I was looking at a Banks billet torque converter and a B-D flexplate. Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track, if there are better brands/compatability/options. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the auto brands and stuff but can you describe this chatter feeling more? When does it do it, is it load dependent, RPM dependent, anything at all out of the ordinary other than the chatter? Everything you did makes 0 difference if you are just cruising along. The AFC is only in the mix under 5psi-ish and the fuel plate is only a sort of "throttle stop". When you are cruising along under low engine loads, they are not used.

I went full throttle to check. I went up hill loaded. I had no issues until it went into full lockup in low range and throttled up. It appears load related not rpm. I also checked @ highway in full lockup loaded. Same results. I back off @ chatter because it appears to slip while banging. I have no other symptoms that I notice.

The only thing I can think of is the converter is having issues and since you turned it up it is slipping just as you said. If the RPM doesn't change, it only takes 1/2" of throttle to be at WOT, so even though you aren't at WOT pedalwise, enginewise it is. So since you moved the plate, you are making more power and the tranny isn't liking it. Hopefully an auto tranny guy will chime in and give you some more details.

What is happening is that you are overpowering your converter. Be careful with it because you can shred the lining in it and it will go through your transmission and plug it up costing you more money. Depending on the miles and condition of your tranny you may get by with either just a convertor, or maybe a valve body and convertor, opr worst case a new tranny. I personally would contact Dave Goerend www.goerend.com My daughter and I both have one of his trannies and we are both VERY satisfied with them.

I got the impression I was overpowering the converter. I have some hauling to do very soon. I hate to do it but I may have to slide the fuel plate back for now. I appreciate the Goerend link.
