  1. Getting rid of the K&N and swapping over was a perfect fit. Heat shield and all. Found the filter and cover at Amazon which totaled $80ish shipped to my front door. Thanks for all the help and the great discussion.
  2. Well Gang, The verdict came in. VP44 was shot due to the Airdog Raptor FRRP going intermittent on me. It was going back and forth between 14lbs and 0. I'm waiting for Airdog to make good on thepump and hopefully they will. So far they "can't find my name in their database". The guy who normally does warranty stuff is out until tomorrow. Had to drop the change on a stock pump to get it back on the road.
  3. My girl took one look at the camo and the throatiness of the diesel and told me she wanted the truck. That was in 2012 when I first bought it and she was only 11. She's never let up since. Just wants me to change the camo wrap to Muddy Girl Purple before she gets it. I figure it is the perfect first truck because it has lots of steel around her and will haul everything but ***.......and I know that she will learn the joys of being the only one in her friend group with a pickup truck. Public service is good for building character. ;)
  4. Wow Gang, I have a love/hate thing going with all of the great information here. I keep learning a hell of a lot but it keeps reminding me of how much I still have to learn. I really want this truck to run strong for several more years as it is planned to be my daughter's first vehicle in another 18 months. She is already starting to drive it out on the ranch and around vacant parking lots. Part of our deal is that she has to learn to do basic maintenance on it as well. I huge THANK YOU to all who are inputing for my education. I will be able to pass on so much more to her. Doc
  5. Awesome Job Kevin, It looks like you just opened up the top of the heat shield a bit? Found my Filter on Amazon for under $50 shipped. Now I've got to grab and Outwears Pre-Filter just to play it safe. I'll get my truck back on Tuesday and can't wait to get cracking on making it roadtrip ready again. Doc
  6. So I did a search around and found that Amazon has the Wix 46637 filter for $45 bucks shipped. Figured that was about the best price I was going to find for a while. Doc
  7. Would definitely like to see a few pics if you have the time, Thank you, Doc
  8. So I'm picking up my truck, with its new VP44 on Tuesday and will be making a 12 hour drive with in on the following Sunday. As I was looking my truck over before sending it off, I noticed way too much residue in the mouth of my Turbo. Considering that I run a K&N, I was pretty surprised. Then I started reading around here and my Turbo looks pretty much like the one in Mopar73's article about BHAF. What I'm wondering is if I can use the tubin setup and heat shield from my K&N and get a BHAF to fit into the space? If anyone has done this or knows about the size dimentions, I'd really appreciate it. Normally, I'd just go get a filter and give it a go but, just coming out of a layoff and the expense of the new VP44, I just don't have a play around budget. Any and all help is highly appreciated. Thanks, Doc
  9. Off to Texas Diesel Injection this morning for full diagnostic and, most likely, VP44 replacement. I gave a lot of consideration to doing the work myself but feel the time crunch and family issues closing in. With my Wife in the hospital right now, I just don't have time to turn wrenches. Have to drive to a job on the 15th the next state over and want to know that I'm good to go without hassle. Thanks to all who put in the great information to try and sort me out. Doc
  10. For those who have mentioned a Fuel Pressure Guage, I am on it. For the past two years, the Fuel Pressure Guage was something that I would constantly think "I really need to grab one of those" and then always have some BS reason to forget about it or blow it off. Now I am reaping exactly what I sowed. My Grandmother used to say "Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today" and danged if that lady wasn't spot on about this too. It pretty much leaves me feeling like the quenticetial Moron. Will definitely be adding one to the gear when I replace the VP next week. Doc
  11. VP has 134K miles on it. It was the original with the truck. I've personally put 109K of those miles on it since 2011. I took a look at the tank venting but can't find any signs of obstruction.
  12. Checked out the harness connections. Everyting is nice, clean and snug. Such is life. Looks like I'm probably shopping for a VP44 soon. I believe is was Prince who penned "This is what it sounds like when your pump dies" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CseG6T4W7Y I'm in mourning this morning. Doc
  13. Will be checking it this morning. So far this morning, I took one friends advice and cleared the codes I was getting with the scanner, restarted the truck and then checked to see which codes returned. Only returning code is: 1688 - Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controler Failure. Doc
