1994-2000 cab swap

Recommended Posts

So I have a 1996 2500, reg cab, auto, 4x4. The body is rusted out I’m wondering can I buy a 1994-2000 1500 2wd and put it on the 2500 frame. And all I would have to do is cut a hole for the transfer case shifter. I was gonna swap all the wiring and the dash. Just wondering who have done. And what am I not thinking about. Thanks!

Thomas,

I did an entire body swap on my 1999. I used a 2001 2wd body.  I had to cut hole for 4x4 shifter but it was easy. I used plate that holds linkage to floor pan as a template and the holes where bolts would go where dimples on floor pan. You will need to swap your harness from current truck and dash cluster, airbag module, etc into donor truck cab.   I can be done.  I did mine over a winter working on it on weekends, but my father-in-law with 3 other guys including myself did an entire body, motor and trans swap on a 2000 in a weekend.  Just take your time. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

That sounds good. Think I might have found a real nice 2500 V-10 4x4

Thanks

Hi Thomas

I did a cab swap as well. I had a 5 speed 1998.5 club cab that i rolled, and I found a 1998 gasser Quad Cab with a blown engine. It was pretty straightforward, though a lot of stuff to keep track of. I swapped the whole dash and electronics from my original truck into the new cab, because of course I needed the diesel-specific stuff and also the old truck had better options (like the infinity sound, power windows & mirrors, etc. Both trucks were manual 4wd so there was no cutting needed, but it would have been pretty easy to do in necessary.

Here's a link to a post I did on that. I would think your project would be very similar. I'm happy to try to answer any questions if I can.

Back again on this topic. I was reading online that there is a difference in 1994 dodge frames. Did they change something halfway though the year? Still wanting to do the cab and body swap one truck was made in the fall of 1993 and the other was late summer of 1994, both 1994 trucks. Thanks
