differences in 4x4 frame and 2x4 frame

Recommended Posts

Before I go measure, does anybody know if the cab mounts and the bed mounts are in the same position on a 2001 quad cab long bed 2x4 truck frame as they are on a 2001 quad cab long bed 4x4 truck frame? Want to take the quad cab and bed off a 2wd and put it on a 4x4 truck frame for my frankenstein beast swap just need to know if the frames and cabs are totally different, im thinking they are not, but who knows.

Johns were in the same spot as mine and that is comparing a 97 quad cab long bed 2wd to a 01 quad cab long bed 4wd, so I would say they are all the same as long as it is the same bed (long/short). The whole chassis was even the same as far as I could tell.

excellent!! i figured they would keep them the same for ease of manufacturing and assembly, but you never know. will be a fun day then, going to move ahead with frankenstein dually haha

sounds like this thread over at CF http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-non-powertrain/269586-thirds-time-charm.html so read it well, maybe i just misunderstood ya, but hes done 2x to 4x swaps and the results were uhm interesting. just looking at the front wheel well you can tell it doesn't look right.

Just the first page of that gets worse the farther you go down  I forgot you mentioned the cab too, the 24V's seem to have more room in the firewall, like they are kicked in more or something. Not sure why it seems like that. Doubt it makes a difference on how it mounts up though. I had John's bed off and was comparing everything to my truck and everything was identical as far as I saw. Everything up front looked the same too. Might have just been an illusion on the firewall thing. As for that guy in the CF thread, I didn't look at the front ends of them, cept them bilsteins John has  so not sure how much hacking he had to do. Dang it, forgot you were doing same style late model 2nd gen cabs, so yeah definitely not a thing different :thumbup2:

Wow. What a thread. Not sure why he thought a quad cab would fit where a single cab fit.
