I'm going to be replacing my headgasket here after the next payday or 2 and was wondering if anyone here has done it before? and if so got any advice/pointers? I have a pretty good idea of what all I have to do, my main area of concern is about checking the head for straightness and whatnot. I'm also planning on upgrading my injectors too while I have everything apart.Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

My 97 Dodge Diesel (which I drive rarely) has been difficult to start lately. I had to use the manual primer on the lift pump to get pressure to injector pump. I had installed a pressure guage in cab of the truck to indicate pressure feed to injector pump. The other day I drove to a friends 20 miles away. Truck ran fine after manual priming again to start it. I was parked for about 1 hour and then the truck refused to start at all. Pumped and pumped the manual primer and the pressure gauge in cab would go up to 10 psi. I would try to start the truck and pressure would drop to zero immediately. I could not belive the lift pump was bad since I replaced it 3 years …

so i work at a gas station just down the road from me, i always talk to my costumers that drive dodge cummins vehicles! there's one lady that come's in almost everyday day, she has a 96 2500 ext. cab needless to say it's not the happiest sounding 12 valve i've ever heard.... i asked her if she had ever had her valve lash checked ? she looked at me like i was talking about some sort of space shuttle part lmao i then found out the truck has 350,000 km on it (still a baby) but probably needs a valve adjustment! regardless she told me that i should come adjust them for her and that i should give her my # so i did. after talking with her i soon found out she doesn't really car…

My truck isn't running the heater grid when cold as it should. Wait to start is only lit for a second or so and goes out with water in fuel. That's based off the temp seen at the IAT sensor, right?Hopefully killed the sensor with diesel contamination and haven't given myself harness issues yet. Just replaced bad injection lines again... There's been lots of fuel loose under my hood

Was on my way to work this morning and stopped on a hill at a red light. Light turns green so I start letting out on the clutch and I thought the truck was going to stall so I mash the clutch in and it picked back up, so I give it some more fuel and start letting the clutch out again and watta you know I start going backwards... in 2nd gear truck ran for about 10 seconds or so backwards then died. Started it back up and off she went like normal. quite a experience though.

I went to georgia pulling a trailer and around 40psi I ended up blowing out the intercooler boot and jesus that thing smoked The stock clamp is stripped out at a certain point allowing me to only get it so tight and now it only holds about 25psi before blowing it off again. I found the boots and stuff for $$$$$$$$$ but just the high tension spring loaded clamps are only $7 each so I was wondering if the stock boots really need changing. I know a lot of people switch to aftermarket ones but I have never read anything about the stock boots having issues but wondered if anyone on here knew anything about them. I don't really see a reason to upgrade but I think the after…

I've been finding a lot of stuff across the web lately but geeeeez its a pain to find it all. I'm compiling everything I have found into this thread. What I have found is really good info and tells just about everything about the p7100. This concerns specs/teardown diagrams/all kinds of stuff. Clicking on these "[source]" takes you to where I found it. I don't like stealing people's info without giving them credit. Pump Specs There are 2 number plates on the P7100, one is underneath the throttle plate on the drivers side of the pump so you have to take the 3-10mm screws out and take that plate off to see it. That number plate concerns the front half o…

To help those who are new 12V owners, this will give you a rough, possibly detailed idea of how this engine is set up. I made this so people won't have to read for months trying to understand each part and understand the engine, or other brand diesel owners wanting to know how these work so they can help someone else. First we have the specs from the factory of the 1994-1998.5 12 Valve Cummins. There is already a good/complete set of specs for these trucks. 1994-1995/1996-1998 There were hardly any changes from the 1995 to 1996 power differences, mainly just different fueling to provide more power and a slight change in pistons. Year to Year changes can be found he…

I have just got off the phone with a guy from Tork Teknology who is explaining my installation problems with my new raptor 150 pump. Says he has had alot of comments latley about raptor pumps and so he has done his research. He suggests going to his site and and you can get a newletter updates about all kinds of stuff. His name is Rob and his number is 616-298-9103. Or http://www.torkteknology.com/ He would like to write a tech article about installing the raptor and I would like to encourage him. He spoke with me about things like the stock fuel filter handling only 53 gph while the raptor pushes 150>> Also talked about the overflow valve sendi…

I got a ton of videos and people ask me about some but I got them all on unlisted so they have to find the article on the forum to find them. I figured it would be just as well to let everyone see a list of what all I have. I ranked them as follows: [*]~*~-Things that ended up not working [*]***-Stuff about my own truck, might not be of value [*]**-Made for someone probably only for that person [*]*-Made for someone but good info [*] -Good info ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*] [*]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irzv-D…

There must be some old threads that describe in detail the workings of a wastegate for a '95 12v; if so could someone possibly direct me? I seem to be inept at searching this site. If not, I have some questions about how it works. Thank you

I am not sure why I never did this but I pulled all 3 plugs on the PCM and the only thing different was I lost all the check engine lights (THANK GODDD!). So I am wondering why there are a million wires going to it. I had lost some functions after rewiring my truck but I thought the PCM was still doing other things, apparently not. From what I can gather, this is all it runs on my truck: [*]Coolant Temp Gauge (Got my own, accurate to the degree exactly (digital)) [*]RPM Gauge (Got my own, accurate to the 100ths of a revolution, 1000ths if I am below 1000RPM(digital)) [*]Grid Heater Relays/WTS Light (don't care) [*]Water In Fuel (WIF) Light (especially don't …

I recently bought a 1997 auto Dodge cummins with #0 fuel plate full back, AFC full back (towards cab) 3000 GSK and 15* of timing. I have tweaked on the star wheel a little bit. My question is I have a 1999 24valve cummins auto with RV 275 injectors that has alot more low end power than this 12 valve. Is this normal? The 12 valve will run off and leave the 12 valve in upper RPM's but not down low. Is this normal due to variable timing and slightly larger injectors of the 24 valve? My 24 valve would really light the turbo at about 1200 rpm but the 12 valve won't until about 1600 rpm.So far the 24 valve is the better tow rig just because of low end grunt. Any suggestions?

I finally got around to doing this, well not really I just threw it all together so it is kinda repetitive and you'll just have to excuse my horrible skills at showing people how stuff works. BUT, this shows a crapload more than you'll ever see anywhere else and I should probably be getting paid for it but oh well. Without further delay, heres 25 minutes of explaining. Everything else has already been explained in a write up: [*]Fuel Plate [*]Fuel Shutoff Solenoid [*]Smoke Screw [*]AFC (Starwheel) http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3S65hqFaUo Some things to note that I forgot to mention: This is a 215HP pump, as you can tell from the retar…

Hubby is not very mechanically inclined and currently working too many days & hours to even attempt working on my truck so looks like I'll have to put it into the shop some where. Been pampering this thing for over a year, knowing it was getting worse and I am NOT going to get stranded out some where pulling my horse trailer.... SOOOooooo, any suggestions on how to locate a good shop and what kind of cost should I be expecting? I dont really want to try 'piece' it back together and have this happen again later as I'll have to take off work while it's in the shop since I dont have a back up vehicle to use to get around.2001 Dodge 3500 quad cab with 245,000 miles and…

Having taken out the front drive shaft to change the clutch, I noticed that there is a rubber cover over what looks like a joint in the front driveshaft. Is this suppose to slide to take up changes in the suspension movement? If so mine must be seized, as it feels like one solid drive shaft. Anyone unseize one of these before? I have it out as I need to change 1 seized Ujoint at the Cardan joint, so a good time to correct this if so.ThanksRick

I took the P7100 out a while back and I got in a hurry and messed up the timing but it ran fine so I said heck with it. I noticed it started up basically instantly, but quickly fell on it's face. When I pulled our trailer the same place (Branson), instead of the usual 15-20psi max, I was now getting into the 30's and it still didn't have the same power. I found it interesting so I drove it some more, pulled some more and now I got a chance to see exactly what the timing was. Believe it or not, it was at 3.8* :stuned:This was actually good because it really made the effects show. Starting is a lot quicker of course, because the piston gets a chance to go up farther, b…
