I am doing a brake job, first one since owning the truck, and in order to get the rotors off the front, I need to remove the Caliper bracket correct? I was having difficulties getting those 12pt bolts loose and looked up their torque specs at 210 ft/lbs! Is that correct and does anyone have and tricks you used to get those bolts off? It feels like my socket is going to break.

Yep it needs to come off to remove the rotor and you should be able to get them loose with 1/2 inch chrome 12pt socket if it is of quality if not then you need to get a better socket.

It helps to turn the wheel to get a better angle and get more leverage on your wrench/ratchet. If you can't break it by hand a small cheater slipped over your wrench may be in order to break them loose.

Ehhm, the only thing I have had to torque on this truck so far with a torque of more than 150lbs. was the axle nuts. What bolts are you speaking of specifically? The 4 bolts that hold the assembly to the spindle?

I believe he is referring to the Caliper bracket bolts. I was not aware the torque spec was that high but I have certainly had to fight them before on vehicles that have not been apart in a long time.

Yes im referring to the caliper bracket bolts. Ill try to get a different socket as I only have a 3/8 with an adapter on my breaker bar.

Ill see if I can get some pictures tomorrow as well before it gets dark.

Huh? Maybe the '99 and newers are different? Mine is an allen style head...

The caliper assembly mounting bolts are allen head, he is trying to take the caliper mount itself off.

Just took mine off this weekend to replace abs sensor. Had to use small cheater for the 12 point bolt on the driver side. Passenger side was a lot easier.

Just got them off. My caliper bolts were torx head and bracket bolts were 12 point and looked like they had locktite on them. Just used a breaker bar with the correct 1/2 drive socket. Before I was using a 3/8 socket, then a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter to stick it on my breaker bar. The proper tool made all the difference.Thanks for the help everyone.

Broke my mates socket with a cheater bar .......... and didnt think I was going to get it off without breaking another one or the cheater itself ...
