Hello I am replacing my Vp44, I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5 speed with the S.O. Isb 5.9 cummins. Is there any way that I can put a 17x (found only in the 6speeds) vp44 injection pump on the motor or do I have to find a 15x S.O injection pump

And if I did put a 17x pump on the s.o. motor what could go wrong?

I have an HO in my 01 auto & it runs fine. Only thing to watch for is added timing from a tuner box.

Also, the SO has more "Capability" for higher power in the long run, as it has larger plungers.

I  replaced mine too  about  a year and  a half ago,   and pondered the same.    Mine is  a 2000   with a  6 speed,    and the   SO  pump.     I stayed  with the  SO,  mainly because of  it was  a little  cheaper,  and  the fact   I didn't have  a  17X  pump to trade.   Which would've made it a LOT more expensive!

it's  true  with  what  yankneck  says..   the    SO  pump has  more   'future upgrade'  potential.

I dunno..  but just  bolting on a  HO     pump won't give  an automatic   increase in power ..(215 to 235)  doesn't the  ecm need to be changed too???

I can't believe they even rebuild /sell the HO pumps anymore as the SO is a much better more popular pump and has more fueling capabilities if wanting to add bigger injectors.

I have no intention to mod my truck I just wanted to know if it would work

Direct replacement. no issues at all. Like stated several times SO is a better option than an HO anyhow.
