  1. My 04.5 failed the exact same way. I assumed it was high EGT. My synopsis was exh valves melted, valve heads came off, one embeded in piston and the other was in the Turbo (mostly). Valve springs were still intact in mine, but rockers damaged. I had my Edge chip set on level 3 pulling my 32' camper up a hill at 120km/hr trying to pass someone, my mistake.
  2. What are the advantages of the one piece driveshaft? My 07 mega has a slight vibration when starting out. Ive changed the centering bearing and a u-joint with no luck so far. I have heard the one piece driveshaft is the answer, any thoughts?
  3. The two blowby common rail engine I have worked on have both had broken rings.
  4. Sounds like heat transfer 101! Not to get too crazy on the science part but what I find funny is when they quote the wind chill, but they always forget the radiation effect from the sun, which is why on a given day standing in the sun makes you feel warmer than standing in the shade with the same ambient temperature. That has as much effect as the stinking wind chill measurement. Also if it is cold and windy out I am generally not standing outside naked, but usually have a coat and toque (toboggan for the US people) on my head!
  5. Actually once you get to know it is not bad. Water freezes at 0 water boils at 100 and -40 is friggin cold no matter where you are!
  6. I guess cold is still cold whether you live in Canada or US
  7. In the summer we can have the hottest temperature challenge. I don't think anyone from Canada will win that one!
  8. Here is a challenge to all cummins ram owners. Lets see who can record the lowest temperature on their dash or overhead console computer. Must have picture to prove. The only prize is bragging rights. I will start with mine, it was -38 Celsius (that's -36.4F) on Saturday morning here as I was travelling on highway 43 to Edmonton, Alberta. That's why we need block heaters! Sometimes I wonder why I live here. :banghead:

If I understand the fan clutch could stay running due to water temp? is that the issue?

Has anyone tried a 200F thermostat on a 5.9 common rail? With winter here, I am hoping to get some more in cab heat when Idling around town. I was thinking of trying a 200f thermostat. I see some guys in the 2nd Gen forum are trying them, any experience on 3rd gens?

Just found this forum while doing some searches for a manual. Looks like lots of good info here. I have a 2007 megacab and a 2004.5 quadcab. both 4x4s and automatics. I am in the middle of a rebuilding the engine in the 04.

Is the Napa one loose? Did you try setting up the adjuster to remove the backlash? I have set mine twice on my 04.5 and once on my 07. Definitely fixes the slop in the steering
  14. I had longer cranking issues with my 2004.5, I didn't have to give it throttle to get it started, but it just wasn't firing up right away. I had the injectors tested at a shop that has all of the proper bosch$$$ testing equipment and they found two injectors with leakage issues. I replaced the two bad injectors and now the truck fires up like it should. I would recommend getting them tested, but make sure the shop has the bosch equipment. As well if you can afford it, if one or more injectors fail, then replace them all. I only replaced two because of budget contstraints. Also the bosch reman injectors are the only way to go as they are fully rebuilt, tested and guaranteed. (or new bosch, but that expensive). Another thing to note if you have excessive leakage, the fuel pressure will not build and the truck will be difficult to start.
