  1. In 5th at 65 hitting a several mile pull, its just fine. But, drop behind a slow truck, or grandma , and its fourth and forty the rest of the way, till you hit flat ground. That's when you miss it. One time coming up out of the Missouri river valley on I-90 near Chamberlain, South Dakota. Three Semi trucks and trailers and me with a 8k trailer racing to the top for position. Got crowded in but, I was able to pass the slowest one. and maintain 50mph. But its not confidence inspiring. When talking to a friend about it, who has a 2011 ford 450 dully 6.7 with a automatic, he said, its the same for him with a 14k 5th wheel trailer on the hitch. So its perspective. Another hard hill is between Buffalo Wy and Ten-Sleep _ Big horns Mts, one hill was Powder river Pass, 8666 elevation, on the sign where I pulled off to cool down. 8% grade for like 7 miles. very tough road for my truck. I would like to have truck that can slay the mountain roads, cause that where ya wanna go with it.
  2. Yep wish I had a built Automatic but, as popeye my truck says "I yam what i yam"
  3. Yeah , But mine is a NV4500 and third is not a strong point on these trans. Its running off the counter, and this is a week link. Many Nv4500's fail in third first. Mine have and recently mine did it again. Sheared the input shaft in wyoming had to wait a week for the trans from MN. Up-grades help and the SBDD will hold better but without proper HP, torque becomes a 16 lb sledge hammer on the trans. Keeping above the turbo with RPMs. Because the NV 4500 is missing a gear between third and fourth. On hills your running 25ook rpms at 30 mph , or shifting down to 4th and lugging it behind at 1300rpms. especially behind some RV that shouldn't be on the road, going 35mph blocking the road. 4th requires about 40 to 45 mph to work well. But, you cant get fifth until almost 50 mph, or you'll be lugging it hard. It's just not a well planned out transmission for hill and towing. these transmissions are good but not well planned out . (with low to high and not much in between). Get on a mountain and you'll find out just where it is missing a gear. Makes me Kinda wish I had a 6sp. But I have been told they are weaker all around. So I opted for a slightly updated NV4500 with the larger input shaft. and now im looking into HP, and bigger tires, and I don't want to re gear. to a 3.73 for the 2k cost
  4. Im not disappointed in the fuel mileage, I get 13.8 towing in town and hills, 14.5 plus towing on flats running in fifth over 65mph. (seem to get better mpgs if i keep the RPM's high in the 2500 range for cruising. But empty and keeping the turbo out of the drive I can squeeze 21 mpg. (dully 4.10 and smaller tires which are better for towing. but not mileage) I cant complain. I Just want better ponys for increased confidence when going up hill. I have had to push it to the floor in fourth just to stay around 40mph when towing up steep grades, and third is not a strong gear and doesn't like get down shifted into. Going through scenic hwy 16A in the Big Horns was not fun.
  5. Yup thats what I'll be doing. Have the trans update now , new gauges are in, and the large air input is in . Fass 150 is in ,Looking into the best exhaust, and a reasonable tuner , Not sure what will be best tuner. Truck is strong but geared slow with the 5 speed and 4.10. Mostly I just don't like the weak HP pull, when tugging a 7k trailer up a 7%. It strains more then I think it should Don't get me wrong I would love a newer truck but I'm a working man and it's just not there. Thanks Evan. Ok Is a used one from Ebay a mistake, are they programed to the truck they are first place into, or can they be placed on any stock truck after being used. In other words is used problematic.
  6. What do you think about the 100Hp VOC's ? I have been told I would be better off with less. But I've read some people that like them.
  7. Boost fooler elbow? What about the 100hp DAPs? I just want a bit more power
  8. 100HP DAP Injectors with aftermarket Bodies for 98-02 match flowed VOC? I Have a set of these and My Stockers have 147 on them, thinking of swapping these in, when I do the Valve lap tune up. I also have a HP VP44 , and was wondering if I should give it a try against my stock VP44, (was wondering if that would bode well with the 100HP injectors.) I thought maybe this would keep me from needing a tuner. My Turbo is the HX35 Let me know what you guys think
  9. Hey thanks for the input. I was think the same, " if the 5600" but if it has different syncros then I get that different fluids is best. I just saw the BG 750 stuff on my receipt, and thought this is not the right stuff, now with an 1k on that im in a hurry to get it out. I can get Amsoil from local dist for 12.00 each but it seems like the thicker fluid has done well for Moparman. What about this? I'm thinking a blend of mobil 50wt and some amsoil MTG because of the viscosity keeping with the GL4 type fluids. My SBDD is notchy If I dont wait for the spindown. And I miss the stock LUK. But not when towing. I can feel the grab. But it is much noisier and there is a slight vibration that the stock set up counterbalanced. Im told all this is normal and with a 1 year warranty I'll be watching it. Found it here..says... "It can also be used in all truck standard transmissions and automotive manual transmissions, transaxles and transfer cases calling for GL-4 gear oil, engine oil or ATF, as long as viscometric requirements are satisfied. BG Ultra-Guardâ„¢ provides thermal stability, smoother gear shifting, optimum drive line efficiency, quieter operation, protection against wear, pitting and corrosion, seal compatibility and improved seal performance" http://www.bgfleming.com/Part/750 I have on a shelf. Im gonna try the Mobil 50wt trans fluid. are you filling to filler of topping it up to the top of gears from the shifter?. Some people say that makes the fluid have less cooling time. But more fluid should mean more cooling. Also I was thinking of building my own version of this cooler with a fass DDRP I have on a shelf. With a remote front trans cooler unit. and click it on when towing in fifth. 10. Mobil 50 trans fluid update 2 members active in this conversation (including you) Mopar1973Man Not read yet Scottyv Read: Just now Scottyv 0 Started conversation: yesterday at 10:14 AM Hi, New to you site but long time follower of you on this and other sites you post, thanks for many great tips and advice to me and other 5.9ers . I just had my trans replaced while on a trip in Wyoming. the Guy who did the work seemed confident but he put "BG750 ultra guard gear oil". I was interested in your test with Mobil 50, I have followed your posts but was wondering if you have and update. (Im not finding the stock oil) and looking at Amsoil MTG or the oil your using. Just looking to change it out with a the most correct oil, I also just read that your trans broke. mine broke from third gear and the input shaft, so I opted for the large 1 1/3rd inch shaft. the Shop that put in the trans and SBDD clutch put in the following oil, (which concerns me a bit. Wondering what you think?) He filled the trans with The BG750 says GL5 plus Gl4 . (but I'm just not wanting to rebuild again in a year or so, due to the syncro issues. It shifts a little notchy in first and reverse. but there is only 1000 mile or less on it. Any advise would be helpful, I can go from there, Thanks BG 750 Product description says.
