OD button intermittent
"Anybody had any trouble with their OD button on the gear shift working intermittently? The problem seems to be a possible dirty switch but I don't want to guess. Ideas? Works both ways, shifting into OD off or on, can't get the thing to go even after several attempts.

Torque Converter Lock / Unlock Issues
I don't know if you have pulled the alternator fuse or not when you say you tested the alternator. I suggest that you pull that fuse (140amp, in the fuse relay box) and take your truck for a short spin to see if you still have a problem. If it doesn't have a problem, then you have a either a bad battery or a bad diode in the alternator. The only way to tell which one is to bench test at a shop or retail outlet for parts (NAPA, etc). You will know if either of these are the problem as soon as you pull the fuse and go for a short spin. There are a lot smarter guys on here than me but I did this after reading this forum and fixed my problem the same as you have. Good Luck,Fishcarver

Cracked exhaust manifold
I had one break in the same place, broke completely in two before I noticed, found a couple of the exhaust header bolts were loose. Took them out, put lock-tite on the threads and torqued them back, no further problems after replacing the exhaust header.

IDLE UP
I have kept note of the engine temp, runs normal at 190 and I don't notice a difference in rpm. Could this be a throttle control sensor issue? I don't think there is any adjustment for the throttle on this model. Don't know for sure.

IDLE UP
I noticed that my rpm at idle has gone from 850 to just a little over 900. This is a constant thing even when warm.Does this indicate a problem? What's the cause and is there a fix? No codes. Thanks for any help.

Torque Converter Lock / Unlock Issues
Mark,Have you tried pulling the 140 amp alternator fuse? That will tell whether or not your alternator is the faulty part if that stops it. If it keeps going, check your batteries. Take them to Napa or similar store to have the alternator bench tested and also the batteries if the alternator turns out to be good.I had the same issue exactly, pulled the fuse and it went away. Replaced the alternator and it was fixed for a bit, the new one went away after a month, it has been replaced under warranty. In ready Moparman's study of this issue, I agree with him about an alternator causing a lot of problems as it is connected to just about everything in your truck. A faulty alternator with a bad diode could be suspect in alot of other equipment failures not to mention a VP 44 or others. You might read Mike's information, think on page 1 of this thread.Good luck. I too am new to this forum and have learned so much, these guys do know what they are talking about and they don't give you a bad time for not knowing much. They are a tremendous help.

Torque Converter Lock / Unlock Issues
I think Mike is right about going after the problem causer and forget the bandaids. I put my old alternator back on and it has not given me any issues for two days and I will see how it works out, then I will return the new alternator and get a another new one.I have some background in electrical things and I can say that with the newer vehicles with computer stuff, the electricity to all parts of the vehicle is very critical. Much fluctuation and you will have issues.Batteries and alternators are a cheap fix compared to a VP or ECM. The problem with bandaid fixes, filters and metal wrappings are they basically cover over the real issue as mentioned previously. So if I fix my TC hunt with a bandaid, what happens to the messed up current going to the other electrical parts? I believe that these vehicles are so sensitive to electrical changes that you must go to the source of the problem, don't cover it up, or you will be asking for problems down the road, IMHO.Didn't mean to get so long winded but I think Mike has this figured out pretty well, time will tell of course but this is a big issue that he may have just got an answer for.

Torque Converter Lock / Unlock Issues
I recently replaced my OEM alternator with a new one (not-rebuilt) and three days ago, started having TC issues at 45-55 mph.I came to this forum right away and checked out this information and after checking voltages and all removing the alternator fuse, the truck ran normal with the fuse out. Replaced the alternator and havn't had an issue as of yet.I had to replace the 140 amp fuse cause I touched a hot lead:banghead:. Yeah, I know, disconnect the batteries:doh:Thanks Mike for all the hard work you put into this site. I have learned so much here and I plan to keep coming back to learn more. Thanks again,

Boost issue
I am not looking for alot more boost, I have a stock turbo and 60hp injectors and I only pull a 27' 5th wheel. I am just an old guy with an old truck havin my second childhood as my wife says.I suspect that from Mike's reply, I might be lookin and a Edge Comp. I saw his write up on his and that's probably the way I'll go. I have all the gauges and stuff and my system is tight so if I have the Edge that should do it, for now.

Boost issue
Thank you, that makes a lot of sense, I am still in the learning curve, on the backside and I really appreciate this site and all the effort that you have put into it.I'll get the boost fooler on the way and see what happens from there. Thank you again.

Boost issue
I have been running without a boost elbow for some time and I installed the adjustable elbow today and there is no increase in boost pressure, 27-28 lbs and I am still getting over boost code. Also, if I get into it hard, as soon as I let off there is a poping noise, like a backfire in the area of the turbo. The poping noise just started last week and has only done it about 5 times and is intermittant. When I installed the boost elbow, I turned the screw down all the way, then back it out about 1-2 turns, still get the code and same boost numbers. Then cranked the screw down all the way, same results.Any ideas?

Air Leak?
Thank you for the response, I now find that the problem as gone away as of right now. I did do the tank pressure test, no leaks. Could atmospheric pressure have anything to do with this symptom? I went from 4200 ft elevation to 350 ft and back, no problem when I left, just problems when there, went away upon returning. Maybe she was just homesick? LOL:lol:

Air Leak?
New to the forum, been lurking awhile, however, I just took a trip to S. Cal and my truck acts like it is losing its prime. Checked for any visible fuel leaks, found none. Truck usually cranks a couple of times and fires right up but now if it sits very long, it turns over but won't start right away. I have noted more black smoke than usual in the past few days and a little loss of power at times. I have about 100K on rebuilt VP, no codes and about the same on injectors. Could this indicate an injector problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love this forum, very informative. Thanks.
