Guys I am at a loss. I HOPE someone can help me, this is frustrating. Bought my first 24v Cummins, it’s an 01, 3500 dually, and 5 speed nv4500. She fires up beautifully, idles normally. Then it gots warm and it idles up, stays around 1500rpm or so. The tachometer isn’t working, I tried replacing the camshaft position sensor and it didn’t fix the tachometer, maybe communication issue? Does the CPS have anything to do with idle? OBD2 computer says idling at 1500rpm. The APPS sensor was replaced, and voltage set. Stays below 0.50 volts, around .44-.48. According to the sensors live data reading, the voltage is all over the place for the other sensors too, the apps sensor is fluctuating bad, between 0 and 5v, and same with other sensors that are sensitive to voltage. I just redid the four battery terminals, grounds were in horrible shape, but the other ends going to the block and chassis are healthy. When I put a voltage meter on the APPS, I get very small fluctuations from .44 to .48, but the live data is freaking out. Things I’ve done: 1. Calibrate APPS with Multimeter on the orange/black wire coming, while setting voltage. 2. Checked alternator, it is consistent and I couldn’t find any alternating current in the system. (Unless I need an oscilloscope to see this?) 3. Checked all connections, the ECT sensor, the ground straps, everything. 4. Replaced IAT sensor 5. Replaced CPS..

My truck has had a random skipping idle with rpms jumping up and down slightly on tach. It skips at any rpm range and very noticeable. I recently upgraded the injection pump because of the computer issues. This didn't help it out at all. I have checked fuel pressure and checked for air in supply to pump. It seemed to have started when i upgraded my injectors to 40hp injectors. I have replaced all seals on injectors and tubes. I did scratch a couple tubes. I did bleed air from every line at head. I don't know if the tubes being scratched would cause this bad of an idle? I can firmly say that from the lift pump to the injection pump is good. Im thinking it is down to connector tubes, injectors or valve guides/seals? I would be surprised if the new injectors would cause this though assuming they were pop tested and have new parts to them. Also the blue smoke is excessive during start up and will last for about 5 minutes before clearing up. It doesn't sound much like a miss (Like loosening line at head), but it doesn't seem to be firing consistently. Could an internal leak in the head (i.e., connector tubes) cause a weird idle? Truck starts great every time. Seems to drive alright. What do you think?

Hi gents, New here to the forum picked myself up a 2002 24v a few months back, I'm still in school so haven't got to working on the truck much yet but did notice I had a few codes when I bought it: P1594 - Charging system voltage too high P1492 - Ambient/Battery temp sensor volts too high P1763 - Governor pressure sensor volts too high Anyone had any experience on where to start with these codes? Truck runs well, only problem is when it warms up it seems to have a rough idle when not in gear. No issues starting even in the middle of winter, fires right up. Thanks in advance for the help.
