Dead pedal issues?

Recommended Posts

A few days ago, I experienced a random dead pedal issue on my lunch break at work. I went to go grab some lunch and everything was fine. Got back to the job site and killed the engine to eat. When I went to start it back up, I put it into drive and started to take off through the parking lot. At the moment I started to put my foot on the pedal a little, I realized I had no response. I mashed it and still nothing. Long story short, called a roll off tow truck, when he got there, it worked again. 2 days later (replaced TPS that day), dead pedal again. Reading forums and stuff to find sequences, all fuses are good, CEL went away when I pulled a fuse to test voltage on. Put it back in and the CEL went away and my WTS light started working again. First time doing a sequence, nothing. During the second time I cleaned my MAPS sensor and put it back in. Fired her up and had my pedal back. Drove it home and it has been parked for a good 16 hours now. Took batteries off to go test them. Batteries are good according to Oreilly’s. Im at a loss here. I dont know if I need a new MAPS sensor, VP-44 or what. I would just replace both but the shop I’d drop my truck off with will charge me $2200 for a VP-44 and the labor. Any help would be appreciated

Get a scanner and check for codes. The cel light you had most likely stored a code. I have had dead pedal issues due to fuel pressure and wiring and it can come from the VP also. Never had from a dead stop, all of my instances have been while moving. It has never been the TPS on mine that caused dead pedal. Food for thought, you can buy that VP for about 1100 bucks and it is only about 4 or 5 hour job. Some here can do it quicker. It is not as difficult a job as some shops paint it to be.
