I’m not sure if I changed a setting, or the website settings changed but now when I select unread content it shows me each new post, not each new thread. When a thread is active it may have 10 updates and those 10 are displayed before anything else. It used to only show the thread once, regardless of how many new posts were in it. Is this something I can change my settings on? Or is it website driven?

Hey Gang, I've gone forward I'm now upgrading servers again. Yeap, 1,700 to 1,900 people per day tends to burn a hole in the CPU, then there is over 750 MB of data now and the MySQL server is wanting more memory. We are currently tapped out of memory. I've got the new server purchased and started setting up the software LAMP. (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) It going to take me some time to get all the software current them I can move the data over. I'll keep this thread updated as I go along.

Sorry gang for the downtime (Feb. 9, 2019). I had to get home to figure this out. It was the "forum skin got corrupt" got lucky just making a copy of the setting and then set all accounts to the new skin. We are back on the air.

Yeah, you read the title right... I've disabled my personal messages. It seems like everyone is bombing my PM box to fix every single problem either with website issues, product issues or truck issues. PM's are not a good method of communication which makes it a one on one communication relying strictly on me. If you want to talk about truck problems we got an entire forum where everyone can help you. Then if you still want one on one communication then there are support tickets this doesn't put on me directly but the entire staff to handle as well. Thanks for understanding..

Ok here is where we are at. After all this time we are growing fairly fast. This last year we took in roughly 100-180 new members per month. Lots of posting and communicating with each other. I've been trying to balance the budget of the server. In a nutshell, there are 4 programs that have to run. CentOS 6 Linux Apache 2.4 Server MySQL 5.7 Server PHP 7.2 Complier Everything from there is extra. Keeping things balance we have 4 GB of memory on the server. So I tuned everything to work within its allotted 1 GB of memory per program for the most part. At this point, I had disabled the Redis caching software and the…

Sorry about the server downtime in the last 24 hours roughly. I'm learning that server tuning is a strange animal. You have to tune all the software to fit within its allocated memory and make sure it never leaves that realm. What has happened traffic picked up push the server to start swapping needlessly. One the drive thrashing started where its swapping data from memory to disk it started taking longer to deal with the request for data. Eventually, the server folds up and quits. This morning I beat on all the software. Tweak it them load it up with virtual traffic and push it hard and see how far I can go. Few times I pushed too hard again creating drive t…

Sorry gang... I thought I had it all nailed down with the upgrade but there is new features and settings for the version 5.7 MySQL software. I didn't know need to be configured so the website ran for awhile then crash at some point grinding to a halt. The server load was off the scale 10.00 and above. I'll have to work at this a little at a time and try to tweak the new server to fit our site. Again I'm sorry for the extra down time.

Thank you gang! This is really helpful seeing all you posting your pins on the map. Now other members can see who's around then on the map. We need more people to post up. There is over 4,500 members on the site and only about 76 members in the US that posted that is just a small fraction. Come on gang. Get those pins placed on the map.

I've got to say "Thank You" to @TryNto for finding that screw up in the Member Map. Apparently, the software has changed along the way and permission layout changed without warning so some of the different members were locked out to using the member map feature. I've go over the permissions on the member's map and it seems to be working now. This brings up the member's map feature. I installed this so members can post your city, state position on the map for other members to know there is help in the area. That way if they are traveling or new to an area they know they can look to the member's map and find people around them. I'm asking please post your pin on…

  14. Started by Mopar1973Man,

I've had to make a few changes to the site regarding the guest users. I've pulled the Search Box and the Activity Stream functions. Most of you might ask why? The thing is that both functions are server heavy. The problem is that the bots and spiders are also using these functions as well, increasing the server load needlessly. Both Activity Stream and Search box are heavy CPU and hard drive hitters. This meant I had to pull the two functions from the guest users since there is no way for me to stop the spider and bots from using the functions. Average traffic on the site can range anywhere from 150-300 connections at any one time. These functions are given to…

I wanted to bring a professional appearance to the site. So I picked up the Classified Ads module for the software. The Classified Ads will show up on the site in the sidebar and footer areas. Displaying 5 random ads. The Classified Ads are going to be under the "Store" tab on the navbar. As for posting ads. You can post any kind of ad you wish. There is a category for truck stuff and personal stuff. The types of Ads you can post are... FOR SALE EXCHANGE WANTED Condition.. NEW USED Package... Member - Gets 30 days free classified ads small fee to renew after 30 days. Silver - Gets 180 days f…

  16. Started by Mopar1973Man,

I've done several updates to the software. Switched from SparkPost Email to SendGrid Email. There were issues with using SparkPost email servers being the IP address could be tainted by other email users. This would make it possible for another site to blacklist mail from our site. I moved over to SendGrid which is also a paid email server but clean IP address. I'll be getting a newsletter together soon for the members. As for the zero poster members I've sent them all an email to hopefully get them to come on over and start posting and interacting with the other members. Adblocker detector I've added this plugin to enhance the revenue of the adv…

I'm going to return back to doing email campaigns again. There is a huge problem I got taken care of in one wack just by sending an email. now we've got members here on the site that started back in the early 2007 period most of them are gone. Their accounts are still here with email address. What been happening is some of the newbies have necromancer an old thread from back in the day and the member might be following the thread so the website software attempts to send email to account that is no longer. This creates a nasty email from the provider saying that this account doesn't exist. If you don't correct this then you might get blacklisted. I added a plugin that auto…

  18. Sorry for not catching this earlier. Google Adsense gave me new features and they ended up being enabled which made a trainwreck for mobile folks. Ads displaying on top of content and articles making it tough to read. I've disabled a bunch of advertising on the mobile side. Back down to the standard advertising that the forum has in the normal layout. Should be a header, footer, sidebar, after first post and after first topic. Sorry for the mess and layout issues this created. Again I'm trying to make this the best Cummins forum on the internet.

I pulled the lever and upgrade the software on the website to the newest 4.3.0 version. There are several updates to the software so I'm sure some of you will find the new features quickly.

I know that the website search engine is poor at finding what you need. with the release of 4.3.0 software I can add in the Elasticsearch engine to the server now. This would improve the search feature of the site considerably. This will be a future project for me. I've got to get the time ot sit in front of the computer and install software, configure the Elasticsearch engine and hook it up to the website. I'm working hard at making the best Cummins forum on the web. https://www.elastic.co/
