Looking for recommendations on the easiest/best way to clean up the engine bay of our trucks? I'd like to get things looking as new and shiney as possible but I've never do it before so not sure what all the prep to keep water out of, or anything else that should be done before I start spraying things down. Any good cleaners or degreasers? It'd be really nice to clean up all the mess from the crankcase vent, and then do the vent mod and be done with it for good!

  • I wouldn't try to spray electrical connections directly.... Other than those wash away! Mine gets a full wash once a week

  • Any and every plug! Unplug, apply inside female end, reconnect.

I never let mine get oil and or grease build up in the first place, I am so super anal about even a few specs of dirt collecting and fix all leaks as soon as they appear or just keep some small ones s

Alright well I got the chance to get things cleaned up a bit today. Even though it was pretty rainy (in the PNW?! Go figure!) I just assumed it'd make cleaning up and excess in my driveway that much easier. I did go through and apply dielectric grease to every plug I could find and get unhooked. I know I missed some but they weren't in the direct line of fire so I'll get those later at some point. I plan on just applying some grease every time a connector comes off and eventually they'll all be done.

Here's what I used

Here's some before

And the finished project

Sorry some of the pics are blah, they're from my phone!

Overall I'm really happy with the results, definitely will make this a routine thing, especially since I didn't get everything cleaned up like I would've liked. Either way I'm a happy camper!

For those hard, stuck spots you can use starting fluid. It melts the grease away, but it gets expensive quick!

Yea I bet haha!

Honestly the degreaser worked really well, it was just really hard to get the pressure washer wand under the hood to spray it down good haha

Looks nice.  Id bet your radiator is full of grease and dirt from the breather though.

Radiator is a month old! :hyper: The PO took it in complaining about lack of heat so the shop replaced his radiator/thermostat, go figure. Anyways, I'm sure it was pretty clogged up because things were pretty messy down there prior to the cleaning.

The crankcase vent mod is coming soon! Can't let things get messy again!
