With our new home in our budget now, the need for such a large trailer like our toyhauler is just not necessary for us now. Especially the hefty monthly payment for it. We are looking to downsize to something smaller and affordable. I would like to better utilize the money for other things that can get me ahead instead of paying on an RV that I might use once or twice a year, but paying for it all year long.

I'm at a bit of a crossroad with what I want. I would like to get something small if I had to choose a travel trailer. But the idea of a camper is also very appealing as well. We may do some occasional traveling in long distance. We also may go camping once or twice a year in the forest. We do plan on a family some day, but we already live in the woods. I would still want to take them camping when they're older, but that doesnt mean they have to be in a trailer. Tents work just fine too! Maybe eventually have elk camp again someday.

The other idea I had was with my future beekeeping ventures or another thought of versatility is to secure the camper to a gooseneck and have it transport that way. I may eventually go into the migratory thing. Do you still have to tab a camper like a trailer every year? I know I could have to step up my plate endorsement if hauling it since I will be heavier than 8800 lbs for the roads. ID taxes you if you drive heavy. I cant remember if this applied to recreationalists or not. Also, I'm concerned about a camper and how it affects the drive-ability of the truck vs a trailer.

Anyways, I'll be working on clearing and cleaning out the toyhauler soon and taking her back down to a dealer for a down trade soon. I just need some other input on the matter to help me make a decision!

Are you upside down on the loan? If not just sell it outright and be done with it and put the payment money into the house and property..............................................and most importantl

  • RVs' value drop faster than a squirrel falling from a tree.  The RV dealer will tell you one thing on the phone to get you to haul it to his place and then low ball you hoping that you won't want to d

Like for us an RV is a valuable tool. Since we live so far from a large cities it allows us to pull the RV down to RV park and be just outside the large cities and be able to gather supplies, grocerie

Weight limits on jo blow vehicles?

Here in the upper plains if one can get the load rolling its legal lol...............as some of my towing pics showed I have towed the mark @ around 35Klbs a few times with the ol 05.:whistle2:

Sold the gooseneckflatbed a couple weeks ago so the heavy load days are behind me now. I did load up the Hemi ths weekend with my Kubota tractor in the new to me dump trailer for a weekend of barn and corral cleaning at the in-laws farm, the hemi handled it well considering the 40mph winds all weekend.

Tires and registration.. Those are the only black and white laws around here.

Well in regards to weight :-)

If you go the slide in camper route then you will need to look closely at your bed weight.  A heavy camper can easily overload your rear tire ratings on a SRW rig.

You would likely have to upgrade your tires and/or wheels to carry the load.

That's not  bad thing, just a reality you should consider in your cost analysis,

I carry a slide in camper and I wear 19.5 tires.  Carries the load well, eliminates sway from soft sidewall LT tires, and gives you much better tire mileage than LT tires.

HA!

I got the trailer emptied out last night. I'm going to camping world today to see what they're willing to do. I'll have to clean the trailer this weekend coming up and then fight with blue dog for warranty work. I'm ticked off about keystones trailer quality. Don't ever buy a keystone rv trailer!

Lol, that being said, my co-workers husband is looking at possibly buying the trailer from me as well. It sure would be nice. Im going to try and work this from the most ideal situation to the least ideal.

Blue dog doesn't even want it until maybe the fall and then they might do it as a consignment. Thanks for the support, jerks!

Alright, so going to camping world yesterday showed that I could get myself into hotter water. No dealer Will take my trailer except consignment. No surprise there. Then we looked at doing a trade in. We found a travel trailer at 23 feet long for 24k. Monthly payment would have been about 300 month worst case scenario. But they would only give me 46k for my trailer. 10k less than I owe. Not gonna happen. I won't pay too just get into another loan.

So it's time to try doing private party sale. Wish me luck! I can ask for nada value much easier and give the buyer an incentive to buy at my owing price. Everyone should come out on top!

I would prefer trailer over campers. We can also take suggestions from the vehicle shipping company experts like http://www.wewilltransportit.com/rv-shipping/ as they may give better and accurate suggestions and may also help us with the shipping.
